Hands down the best winery restaurant in McLaren Vale. A bit pricey but the wine tasting prior makes it all worth while. It was a quirky and interesting lunch the whole way through the 18 courses. We felt like we were down the rabbit hole and came out 4hours later after the sun had pretty much disappeared feeling very satisfied. Food was amazing. One of the better degustations in OZ. A must do, even if you fly in and fly out for it. Much cheaper then some of the well known degustation venues in Melbourne.

The DArenberg Cube Osborne Rd McLaren Vale S.A.The DArenberg Cube situated in the McLaren Vale wine area, is absolutely so different, it confronts your sensors on several levels. The architecture is different, yet compelling. Walking through inside is well worth the effort with a $10 admission fee, but this includes some excellent wines to sample/taste. We enjoyed a very nice dinner in their well appointed restaurant. (Reservations essential)The service was excellent, even though there were a large number of visitors viewing. A major tourist attraction for South Australia.

From the outside, d’Arenberg Cube is impressive – it’s a monochrome Rubik’s Cube inviting you in to solve it. Inside, however, it’s a confused mixture of viticultural education and ‘art’ (a term I use loosely in this instance). The bizarre bathroom level is replete with plastic vines and urinals in the shape of caricatures of (i think) the Osborn family and friends (you pee into their mouths?!). Also, while views from the top tasting level are breathtaking, the wine tasting experience lacked the warmth and friendlinessthat’s normally associated with quaffing (did i actually just use that word?). We had to wait a while to be served and felt that the cellar door sales person lacked knowledge of d’Arenberg’s vast wine list. This type of ‘attraction’ can work, the Guinness Brewery in Dublin is a great example, but for me d’Arenberg Cube lacked coherence and flow. Call me old-fashioned but give me wine tasting in an old barn or something any day.
