Service lets this place down. Stood at the counter for ages and didnt get acknowledged whatsoever, not a smile, no eye contact, nothing. However the fish and chips were nice. The burger my friend said was OK not amazing, so overall an average eat.
We were uber excited at checking out this new fish n chippery in North Adelaide. We had a pretty big night, the night before and needing some good soaking food, anything deep fried always makes you feel better, doesnt it? We entered this establishment and were greeted by friendly staff and having our choice of seating, we chose a booth, oh I do love a booth! Whilst we were perusing the menu, I noticed the music in the background and it was not pleasant to listen too, it was really heavy and did not suit at all. We ordered Crab Cakes, Flathead with chips and salad deal, Lobster Roll. We did receive table service although I believe you have to order at the counter. When our meals were ready, (which actually took quite a long time and they were not busy), they were placed on the counter and you have to collect yourself, seriously did not like this concept for the prices charged. I dont mind collecting my F & C wrapped up in paper from the local takeaway counter, but not at this type of establishment. Crab cakes arrived and they were nice enough, quite thin but tasty, sauce was nice. Our lonely piece of flathead arrived with a quart lemon as a friend on the plate, looked pretty anaemic and was quite thin, I am pretty sure it was not fresh but had been frozen, nothing special for $13.90. Lobster roll, salad and chips were on a separate plate. Started on the chips, now before I mention these, their claim on their menu is The Best Chips in the World, well I would be removing that claim pretty quickly! They were undercooked, still raw in the middle and seemed to be straight out of a bag! We had to send them back and have them cooked through! How does this happen? How can you get chips wrong! Salad was okay but needs a more interesting dressing. The lobster roll @ $25.90, was a bit of a joke with mostly potatoes in it! Very little lobster and not good at that, bland tasteless micro bits of apparently local SA lobster (questionable). If you are going to do a limited menu and showcase local produce, then it must be exceptionally executed, we have fabulous produce here, so why is the fish of the day from Victoria? All in all, glorified fish n chips. Sorry would not return.
The good: ability to have your fish oven baked instead of fried, the prawn Bao was sensational – two plump juicy large prawns in a supersized Bao.The wood baked fish was nice. Crab cakes were ok but not amazing – certainly better than some of the mass produced ones I have tasted previously. The not-as-good: the fish burger was full of tasty things (such as the salt and pepper crisp crust) but fish fillet itself was very flat and not enough fish flesh… would have liked more. Was tempted to order a lobster roll but at $26 I was hoping there would be more than 30g of lobster (what the staff told me when I asked how much there was). I had so many good lobster rolls in NYC, happy to pay good coin for them but want them to be full of lobster.Overall great potential and I’ll be back to try more…. and eat those super sized prawn baos!
We ordered the lobster roll and the oven baked flathead. What we got was a potato salad roll, we could hardly see any lobster, let alone taste any. For over $25 it was way overpriced. I am guessing there was less than 20g of lobster. If it’s called a lobster roll, that needs to be the main ingredient, it needs to be renamed a potato salad roll. The flat head was $22. The fish was nice, the tartar sauce was amazing, the potato salad was bland and the fries were simply horrible. They were stock standard cheap frozen chips. If you have a fish and chip shop, the fish and chips should be amazing. This is your bread and butter. These are the worst fries I have ever had. Maccas do better fries. The theme is great, but you shouldn’t really advertise all fresh, all local when NT barramundi and Tassie salmon are a menu staple, and those were not caught fresh this morning. Overall false advertising and a big disappointment.
