We recently visited Cafe Saba on a quiet Tuesday evening as we had heard great things…unfortunately our experience somewhat underwhelming. As soon as we entered the cafe the smelt of fish sauce was inescapable and overpowering…while this is to be expected at a Vietnamese cafe, it became too much when our coconut juices had an underlying note of fish sauce! The food we ordered was average – DIY cold rolls and vermicelli salads. Will say the quail was delicious & would recommend, however stay clear of the fried rice: it wasnt fried, just drowned in oil! We sat outside under a beautiful canopy of trees, however the tables were sticky, such that the waitress struggled to collect our plates; in this sense, I did not feel confident in the cafes cleanliness. Im sure this cafe has some great dishes to offer, but unfortunately those we ordered wouldnt have us rushing back anytime soon!
Cafe Saba is super cute and the food on offer is super delicious. Food is so fresh and flavoursome and the traditional Vietnamese flavours are evident in the dishes coming out of the kitchen. The restaurant is quite small and hidden at the back of an arcade but turnover is quick and there’s a no fuss approach. Prices are very reasonable and when the food is as tasty as it is here you’re not fussed about the restaurant decor. Try it out, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Go to Vietnamese place. Their bahn bowls are good sizes, and the bahn Mi is also excellent. Prices decent and amazing tasty dishes. Good, quick service. Never disappoints! Absolutely no complaints.
For me, Vietnamese food is wonderful when youre feeling fat, hungover or just in need of some good cleansing food! Lucky Cafe Saba is 2 minutes away from me, when one of these, or all 3 of these emotions take hold! The lemongrass chicken is delicious, pork ball skewers a little questionable on the mystery meat side, but thats what they do! Cold Seafood salad is tasty and fresh but way too much celery for my liking, some other veges in there would have been good and maybe a couple more prawns. The pho is good, not the best I have had as it is always about the stock, but good enough. Pork and broken rice is plain and simple but nicely cooked. The prices are quite good here, considering there are not too many places to go in Norwood where you wont come out spending under $100! So thanks for being well priced Saba! You can also DIY cold rolls here and there is plenty to chose from on the menu. Will be returning just to try the rest of the menu! Because you can afford to!
I went to Cafe Saba yesterday and the service is atrocious. The girl on the register was rude and certainly wouldn’t make anyone want to come back
After spending $60, they make you pay 50 cents for a takeaway container & an eftpos ser charge under $15. These fees should not be applied. On the up side, the food is good (especially the pho) and been back many times.
If you need a Vietnamese fix on the Eastern side of the city Cafe Saba has to be the go to. There are a few negative reviews here but you need to review this place in context. If you are in the eastern suburbs it is great. If you are in the west, head straight to Ferryden Park.
