Great selection of craft beers and one of the best pub burgers I’ve ever had. Stay away from the pokie room though. It’s a dingy depressing world you don’t want to know exists.

I’ve been to this pub so many times now, as it’s local and the ambience, at times, can be pleasant. But no matter what food I order…. It’s always been expensive and well below sub standard. The chicken burger sounded good on the menu… But it arrived with a floury dry bun that wasn’t toasted…. With rocket, not lettuce…. The chicken was so bland and dry that I couldn’t eat it and the fake smoky taste from the tomato relish overwhelmed the whole thing.I just don’t know what they’re doing with the food here!? They really need to lay off the condiments and focus on one simple thing…. good food done right.3 stars for the excellent chips. At least the chips were good…..

Put simply, its pub food. Good pub food. Great chips, tender squid, tasty chicken schnitzel but a watery pepper sauce that was a complete let down. Quality kids meals though for $10 I can get a free drink and ice cream at other locals. $93 for a schnitzel, salt and pepper squid, two kids meals, three soft drinks and a glass of bubbles is way overpriced.

Beef cheeks I hope they keep them on as a main because I don’t know where else to go that does it any justice. Hands down the chef has created a masterpiece that melts in ur mouth like a really Oozie organum of the mouth. Accompaniments with it just spot on. A work of art in any sense.

I love the Colonist, I always have. The atmosphere is chilled and there’s a good mix of people enjoying the atmosphere especially on game day when the Redlegs are playing across the road. Food is tasty with plenty of options, drinks are well priced and again plenty of options. The pub itself is full of character and just makes me happy., I love the artwork scattered throughout. A small amount of outdoor seating available along the parade. Try it out if you’re in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

I went back to The Colonist tonight for the first time in about a year and my friend and I were shocked how much the prices have gone up. There were no steaks under $30. I had the mushroom pie, it was nice but it was tiny and for $26.00 I’m still peckish. No wines under $8.00. The front bar was full of people but was quiet and had no ambiance, needed the music to be a bit louder. I wouldn’t be heading back anytime soon but I’m sure the people in Norwood who have a bit of cash would enjoy the food.

Okay peeps! Is it me? Or are sharing plates getting smaller by the minute? Share food is becoming the size of one bite canapes! Whats with that? When the concept of share plates came out a few years ago, it was brilliant, still is, but I am quite sure the plates were bigger and better value for money around Adelaide? And trust me, I have had zillions of them over the years! We actually had two visit to the Colonist over 3 days, so I have tapas and brekky! The Colonist is such a lovely hotel in a beautiful leafy Street of Norwood, so its always uber pleasant to sit outside and take it all in, and thats exactly what we did.I have seen the menu and the food styles change so much over the years here. I believe it was much better a few years ago, its just not the same anymore. We used to order a lot of tapas here a while ago and it was brilliant, really generous serves and a lot of care taken flavour wise.Share PlatesWe shared Mushroom Arancini, probably the smallest arancini I have ever eaten! One bite and bam, gone! Tasty enough, but for the price charged, not happy! Pork Belly was nice, at least a better serve but still very small. Now the next one I was quite mortified at when it arrived, dates stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in jamon. As you can see by the photo, you get 3, they are tiny and the presentation is questionable, I would not have let this leave the kitchen looking the way it did, this dish needs work. Had a nice bowl of fresh vegetables and had to ask for butter to put on them, as they were dry and dressed with nothing, yuk!! BreakfastWe came back for breakfast a couple days later and it was excellent. All the breakfasts were simple but well executed. Perfect eggs all round and no complaints! Was very nice to see Hentley Farm Sparkling on the menu, although quite pricey. You actually cannot get a bottle of sparkling here for under $45 anymore, but you used to be able to.What I have constantly noticed with this establishment is that you have to wait ages to be served, no matter when you are there! They always seem to be understaffed. Would I return? For Breakfast, absolutely, and for drinks, as this is one of my fav locals!!
