Ive been to this pub before and from memory the food was pretty nice. last night I thought Id try it out again to satisfy my schnitzel cravings so I ordered a chicken Schnitz with Dianne sauce. The staff were friendly and approachable BUT not very attentive as we waited some time before being acknowledged and seated to our table. My food came out quite fast considering they seemed busy, when it did my chips looked over done as the perfect golden colour was more of a autumn leaf brown. My schnitz craving I can definitely say was not satisfied here. It was crumbled nicely but cutting in and taking a bite it was dry and tough to chew, I didnt finish eating as i ran out of Dianne sauce to mask the dry mouthfuls of the schnitz. I will return only if I forget that I didnt enjoy it previously OR on a night where $10 is a more reasonable price for the quality of schnitzel I received.
Went here for dinner last night with my partner and ordered a schnitzel each. I got a parmi which was TINY and very very burnt. I cant even believe they served it to me. My partners schnitzel was also tiny and very dry she said. Both our chips were burnt (so burnt that they were hollow and had no potato left in them) and we barely got any chips in general anyway! They tried spreading the chips them it to make it look like we had more than there actually was. VERY VERY overpriced for what we were served. And its not a decent sized serving like anywhere else you would go. I would give them a 1 star rating but we ordered some dumplings as a starter and they were fantastic and the soy sauce was yummy so Ive given 1.5 rating because of the dumplings.
What a disappointment. After a long hour wait on our meals, they finally came out. We ordered the seafood platter for 2 and the snapper coated in dukkha. Ill start with the snapper, it was well presented, the vegetables were nice, though that was the extent of any positives about the meal. The dukka coating totally overpowered any taste of the snapper (thats if it had any flavour in there first place), secondly the fish was way over cooked and rather dry, certainly not an enjoyable meal to eat, though as bad as it was it was better than the seafood platter. The seafood platter consisted of cold crabs, prawns and oysters in their shell, along with beer battered fish portions, squid rings, whitebait fritters and something that resembled scallops on a shell. The cold shellfish was OK to really bad. The prawns were ok, the crab tasted a somewhat stale, and the oysters were a mix of tasting a little far from fresh to outright off, (if I wasnt with guests that were paying for the meals I would have spat one of foul tasting oysters out onto the table). The fish portions in beer batter were dreadful, I had to search through a huge layer of unpleasantly tasting doughy batter to try and find any fish. The whitebait fritters where like eating a greasy doughnut with an anchovy in it, the squid rings were OK, and the scallop meat was tiny and had no flavour that one would expect from a scallop. The small handful of chips that accompanied the seafood was actually rather nice though. The highlight of the meal was actually the wait service, she was highly professional and very friendly, however, Id prefer to trade the qualities of the waitress with someone in the kitchen that actually knows how to deliver a decent meal. The disappointing thing is I had a similar seafood platter from this hotel last summer and I actually enjoyed it.
We visited here with a group for Sunday Lunch. The foyer is bright and has high ceilings giving it a roomy feel however the Dining Room was not large but ample for our Group and several other dining groups and other smaller tables but I assume in Summer you would have to book ahead to reserve a table to avoid being disappointed incase you just turned up and it was fully booked. Hubby and I started with a Hot Chocolate each to warm us up which must have been yummy because when I next looked at the Cup it was all gone. The only specials of the day were Pies of varying fillings but these were quite expensive ranging towards almost $30 mark so we opted for the main menu. A lot of the meals were also quite expensive so I ordered the Rump Medium to Well and Hubby had the Chicken Schnitzel both with Mushroom Sauce. Both meals were priced at $19.90. Our Group all ordered at the same time and it was nice that all meals arrived at the table together. Both our meals came with a Salad and Chips. The Chips were small and mostly dry and the salad was mainly lettuce leaves such as the ones you buy prepacked at the Supermarket but the dressing on the Salad was nice. My Steak was thin and was cooked well on the edges and medium in the middle was okay but not outstanding but with the Mushroom Sauce poured over it which came in a small jug it was okay. I didn’t eat many Chips and left almost all the Lettuce Leaf Salad. Hubbies Chicken Schnitzel was good and reasonably juicy and again we appreciated that the Mushroom Sauce was in a jug and not poured all over to soften the Crumbs. He too left most of his salad and dry chips. We did appreciate that a basket of bread was provided to share among the table. Overall we had a good time mainly due to the company we were with. I will give this venue an extra 0.5 point as we really liked the fact that we could individually go up and pay for the meals and drinks we each ordered at the end rather than be given a bill and then have to try to work out our split. The staff were attentive but not overbearing and returned to our table several times checking to see if we were ready to order and giving us extra time to choose. This was much appreciated because the group was initially chatty and was easily distracted from choosing. We would not probably come here often due to the prices and I would not rate it as good value for money but we also noted that there is a $10 Schnitzel Night on Thursday Nights and as we will be in the area again in a few weeks on a Thursday we will visit again then and give it another go.
The Beach Hotel has changed for the better. The front bar is now welcoming and current. The staff area always welcoming and the food is amazing. Highlight food for us would be the dudes platter, Beach burger or the pub favourite parmy.
Excellent RotisserieMy husband and I ordered the lamb and pork rotisserie combo from today’s ‘Specials’ menu and it was fantastic. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and came with roasted baby vegetables, a ramekin of tzatziki and a small jug of red wine jus. It was like having an upscale gourmet version of the traditional pub roast – delicious!
Nice food, uncomfortable management. Had lunch at the beach hotel during the week, was greated by a man I can only describe as sleazy and arrogant, whilst ordering for myself and a friend he attempted several passes which put a bad taste in my mouth before the food even reached our table, once the food arrived, the meals were actually very nice, but won’t be returning due to how uncomfortable, which I presume was senior management, made me feel
