Following the chef originally from Lipson Street in Port Adelaide, to then to the display centre near Harts Mill, she eventually settled at her daughter’s cafe at the Corner Store on Semaphore. Locals are many-time repeat customers due to home style cooking with flavours other cafe’s are simply not skilled enough to replicate. Meal size and ingredient quality is outstanding. Whilst you wait, check out the local and international products including cheese and chocolate; it feels like a real local corner store. Join the Semaphore Road efforts to rediscover a local community feel, and contribute to more sustainable food system.
Went here after a recommendation from a friend, but it was very disappointing. Wait staff got the order wrong then disputed it when they brought out the wrong food, Home made crumpets were very dry, only a tiny amount of honeycomb butter served with it, and when I asked to have some maple syrup because it was so dry, they wanted to charge me for it. I gave up and left half on the plate. Would not recommend.
One of my most favourite place in all of Adelaide to go for brekky! They use sustainable ingredients (which is highly important to me) and they almost never get it wrong. I love love love it! They use Heston Blumethal’s’ method of bacon & egg icecream on the menu for the Pan Perdu (sp?). Perhaps slightly a bit skimpy on the bacon & the icecream on that dish on the odd occasion (so the fella says) however, it had always been delicious to me.. when I ate eggs. They also do probably the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had. I used to love the homemade crumpets with the honeycomb butter & also the homemade baked beans. But now I love their vegan options. (They normally have other menu items on the board that isn’t on the regular menu) Being a tea drinker, they do great Chai Latte & Chai milkshakes. And everyone says they their coffee is really good too. It’s a great spot!
Incredibly slow, poor service !. Arrived on a Sunday around 12 for a late breakfast, place was around half full. Was told there was no eggs left (fair enough if it had been a particularly busy morning, but still a bit surprising), which was disappointing, given ~half of the menu is egg-related. We should have taken that as a sign, and headed elsewhere ! After some deliberation hubby decided on the frittata with crispy pancetta, and I the ricotta hotcakes. Coffees came promptly enough, and were fine. After a 30 minute wait, and the people who ordered after us being served, we asked where our meals were. Were told the hotcakes take a while to prep (that would be a nice detail to include in your menu for those who are short on time), and that they were on their way right now. 15 minutes later, our meals were unceremoniously plonked in front of us. Hotcakes were nice enough, but the frittata. Oh dear ! A 45 minute wait for half a bag of rocket, 2 large cubes of microwaved egg with some pieces of insipid sausage and a slice of (previously crispy) pancetta the size of a 20c piece was too much to handle. Hubby proclaimed that he had eaten better frittata on an aeroplane, and all I could taste in it was onion. We left 10 minutes later, still hungry, didn’t dare bother the staff about it because they just didn’t seem to care.. Incredibly disappointing, and will NOT be back. I would have preferred to wait half an hour for a table at Swedish tarts …
Breakfast risotto !. Had lunch at the shop today, breakfast risotto topped with Rhubarb was excellent. My friend also had a fresh ,tasty and beautifully presented Caesar salad. Coffee was excellent too! Great spot for lunch with lots of interesting providore options, both local and imported.
Worst eggs and rude service. Have been going to this cafe for some years each time we visit Adelaide and had been happy with quality of food and service in the past. Made the mistake of ordering scrambled eggs today which arrived (after more than a half hour wait) so watered down with milk that it was leaking on the plate and the eggs would not hold togther. When I returned them the owner simply stated that’s how they come and refused to refund or replace the meal. Absolutely horrible service and we won’t be back.
Terrible customer service and food and coffee not much better! Cook (probably the owner) was obnoxious towards staff members, publicly ridiculing them. Long wait for coffee and food. I definitely would not recommend wasting your hard money on this overpriced establishment!
