By working with a large travel company sometimes you don’t know which place you will be visiting next, I have been in a lot of remote places and our restaurant today was one of it. Tanunda, this was the first time I heard this place let alone visit it, North of Adelaide ——– it was one of the remote suburbs of this wine region. It was literally a small town and I think you can pass by its main centre in less than five minutes. This is where we had our conference as well as a lot of wine tasting and for our dinner we chose to have it in Plush Tanunda Hotel a very old iconic Victorian style (I guess) hotel in the middle of their town.

Long weekend Saturday dinner. I expect pub type food and service and the Tanunda did the trick. The pork Asian meal was generous and well cooked, albeit flavours I’m not sure about. The wife’s garlic prawns were generous and a bit garlicy over the prawns. Historic decor. Polite staff.

We needed a quick meal before we drove back to Adelaide and thought a good counter meal would hit the spot. We were advised by a local that the Tanunda Hotel did decent schnitzel so on that basis we found ourselves there. Service was really quick and the food was decent. Both the schnitzel and the fish that we ordered were well cooked and tasty. For decent pub grub in a nice pub atmosphere the TH will deliver.

Had dinner here on a quiet Thursday night last week.Only 4 other people in the dining room at 7.30pm..Had the crumbed fish with chips and salad. Chose the 2 fish piece option – you can have just 1 piece if you choose. Beautifully cooked and the chips were crisp and very yummy.Would be happy to go back.

Food took a long time to come being that there was only ten people eating at 6pm. Angus schnitzel was good but the mushroom gravy was very bland. My wife had the pumpkin soup and the herbed polenta chips. The soup tasted like its base was salad dressing and the polenta chips had no herbs on them. Very bland and the sauce for the polenta chips was salsa from a jar. Overall pretty disappointing considering the potential.
