We went on a voucher with the kids : the place has an outdated feel but we liked the tufted benches and old wooden tables ourselves. The pub food was surprisingly decent and we would most likely try it again on a voucher. Our meals were hearty and copious. The waiter was helpful.

A family outing for lunch on a Sunday – 20 folks. Plentiful parking caters well for the older folks whilst internally, a nice refined decor, with a 1920’s ‘deco’ twist. Friendly enough staff and reasonable range, also suited to folks on a pension. I ordered atlantic salmon with bok choy, mushrooms and soy. I still remember the first bite of the mushroom, that just melted – a delight. A somewhat ‘light’ meal that I supplemented with some of the wifes pizza to assist my running training. Good venue that caters well for large groups.

I came here for a Christmas function and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the steak and it was beautiful! Perfectly cooked served with delicious sides of potato bake and beans. Flavours, cooking and seasoning all on point.

I don’t go to pubs a great deal and the experience of the Hotel Royal on Henley Beach Road was very positive. Clean modern interior with plenty of casual seating in the bar area next to the Bistro. Right from the start the service was spot on with a friendly greeting, explanation about the menu if we were interested in eating there, and the offer of ice cold water – wonderful on a 40 degree day!We chose to order in the bar, and the lamb salad and Caesar salad were both fresh and good size serves – excellent value for money. The area overlooking Henley Beach Road was relaxing with a choice of stools or bucket lounge seats and the volume of the cricket and the music was just right. A very pleasant experience overall.Summary: Excellent customer service – many could learn from the staff member who served us!. Food was fresh, served quickly and at $18 were good value. Great menu choices including burgers, pizzas and standards like fish and steak just to name a few. Easy parking in Jervois Street or at the back of the Hotel. An unpretentious place with a lot to offer. Worth a try? Absolutely – even if hotels are not what you might normally consider this one is worth a go. adelaidewriter.com.au

A surprise visit to Hotel Royal and I was not disappointed. A welcoming atmosphere and a lovely fireplace on a windy and cold evening. I opted for a beef burger. It was well presented and pretty tasty. I wouldn’t mind giving it another go.

Paul Montesi. 1st time visitor. Menu looked ok, I ordered gnocchi with pumpkin my wife ordered grilled fish. Well what a shock, after waiting too long for our meals to come out, my gnocchi was laid out on a too large flat plate- 14 pieces on gnocchi and 3 chunks of pumpkin. Only warm and was cold after I finished (4 minutes). Very very ordinary. My wife’s fish looked like it had been heated up in a microwave, meant to be grilled, it was completely white and curled up in a mess with a few over cooked chips. She couldn’t eat this meal and sent it back and had a burger instead which cost $19. I had half and while I was eating my gaze sped a fish and chip shop across the road. Oh how I wished we went there.Terrible food, staff quite good but are in denial as I asked if any one else had negative comments about the food? The barmaid said they had many positive comments! The bar seems to be set very low in Mile End.1st and last time visitor.Ps I feel dirty.
