Wandered past this seafood restaurant in Salamanca Place, Hobart a number of times and after seeing television commercials finally decided to give it a shot on a Saturday late afternoon.Lovely decor with a relaxed atmosphere, was quiet when we arrived at about 4:00 pm. Had called prior to rocking up and was informed that if we had planned to arrive after 5:00 pm we would have needed to book a table. No need to book for two off peak.Had a half dozen natural oysters for an entree, which were magnificent. Tasted like they were just taken out from the ocean. Were only $2 each at the time – which was well priced. For mains chose The Lot (seafood) abt $36 and Mixed Seafood Grill from the Lunch menu $41. Pricey dishes for the quantity of food, however the quality was close to 5 star. Grilled salmon and hake was expertly cooked (smokey and moist – yes I used that word haha), octopus was melt in the mouth, literally, and the quarter coz lettuce was coated in a subtle cheese sauce and sprinkled with parmesan cheese – an ingenious and delicious salad variation. We loved it so much that we stole the idea and made it ourselves as part of our lunch meal the following day.The fried flake fillet was divine but very small for the price, a sliver really. Calamari beautiful – though I prefer salt and pepper calamari. Fries were well cooked, salad was lovely with a generous amount of home made dressing – a change from some restaurants.Given the size of the mains we were glad we ordered an entree. Would not have been enough otherwise.Overall, great seafood expertly cooked, pricey for the small quantity and might have considered a 4.5/5 if the value for money had been better. If you can live with the price tag for small quantity would highly recommend Blue Eye. Best seafood restaurant we have eaten at to date in Tasmania.
As a highly recommended seafood restaurant we were compelled for a visit. Once we arrived we sat outside on a perfect Hobart evening and ordered oysters, Blue Eye and SurfnturfThe oysters were a little smaller than the ones on Salamanca Road markets however still very much delicious and on point (they were a different type of oyster than the markets). Both means were fantastic! The scotch fillet was perfectly cooked as the same with the Blue Eye.The absolute highlight was our waiter. He was rushed off his feet but always came with a smile and humour. His knowledge of the menu, Hobart, the food and his recommendations of wine really pulled the review up to a solid 9/10! We had a white and red to accompany both our meals. We didnt get a chance to thank our waiter, he finished up before we finished and we would like to thank him on this review. Apologies to the waiter as we are unsure of his name.If you have a waiter that also coaches surf lifesaving, makes you laugh and provides history and reviews- youll be in an excellent nightA solid 9/10 – looking forward to our next trip
Came here for lunch and had the salmon with vegetables (broccoli and potatoes). Price was reasonable but the salmon was over cooked and dry in the middle.
The food was okay but not amazing. Pretty affordable lunch specials at about 16-18 dollars per dish. The portion was on the smaller side. The house wine was good and affordable too. If you are super hungry, you may need to order from the 30-40 dollar mains.
I was here a few weeks ago with my parents and wow. Everything was simply superb. For entree we had the Huon Salmon Sashimi. Absolutely melt in the mouth. For main I had the Mixed grill which consisted of Huon Atlantic Salmon, Fish of the day (I forgot what it was haha), scallops, octopus, spuds and a pesto based side sauce. This meal was absolutely fantastic. The Salmon, fish, scallops, spuds were all spot on. Nothing could be faulted. The octopus however. My god. Amazing. You know that first mouthful feeling you get when you eat something that just starts singing in your gob? It was that X 5. It was so good that I almost ordered an octopus entree as a dessert. If you dig seafood, go here. If you don’t – try the octopus and change your mind. I’ll be back ASAP!
So I followed up my pizza entree from Cargo with fish and chips at Blue Eye.They managed to fit me in even though they were heaving. I asked to sit outside, which helped, as it was a nice night. I also wanted to sit outside as the night view across the harbour was great.Much to my surprise the fish (Blue Eye/Teraki from NZ) chips and coleslaw arrived quickly with a glass of Tasmanian Chardonnay. The batter was crisp and the fish perfectly cooked. The coleslaw and the chips were also great. All in all a great place to try.
