Came in for a late dinner on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. The service was good and the staff friendly. We ordered a variety and the food came out quickly. The only issue I would say was that the garlic naan came out a bit soft, perhaps a bit under cooked? But all in all pretty good food. There wasn’t a lot of atmosphere as I suspect they were winding up and closed just after we left. The decor isn’t anything fancy, it appears to have been a residential house in a previous life. However, it was still pleasant to sit downstairs and have a meal.

Thought the tandoori lamb cutlets were a few bit over cooked and a lots of the taste cooked out of them.Lamb masala was good but great the next day. Garlic and cheese naan was spot on. Will go there again when I’m in Tasmania. Customer service was excellent.

On this occasion, we found ourselves at Magic Curries because other nearby restaurants were fully booked. But I am glad that we ended up here. The restaurant is made of up a couple of separate, cozy areas with an eclectic and sprawling decor. The service was pleasant, but certainly not stand-out. Dirty plates were left to wallow for some time and service staff seemed to be fairly oblivious to the usual signs of diner’s trying to capture their attention. Fortunately though, the food was excellent. The Cheese Butter Masala in particular was well-balanced, complex and fresh. Naans were hot and fresh and the Chicken Curry was pleasant, albeit a bit flat and lacking excitement.Pricing is average for the area but high for an Indian restaurant. Overall, I think that Magic Curries impresses. With a few minor improvements, this has the potential to be even better.

Best Indian ever!We had the garlic and cheese naan, the butter chicken and the aloo gobi..All dishes were full of flavour and perfectly balanced.. I try butter chicken at every Indian restaurant I go to, and this is definitely one of the best!

Amazing place. Fantastic atmosphere, super lovely staff/service, and absolutely delicious food!!! BYO and licensed, with a great range of wine/beer. Couldn’t recommend more!

Magic Curries is fine but I wouldn’t go over the top in terms of raving about the place. The food is ok if not on the expensive side for what you get. Having said that I usually give it a go once per trip to Hobart. My personal view is that the pizza place up the road is much better value.

Was really surprised at how good this place is. The buttered chicken is a standout and I recommend the samosa and ask for mango chutney. Definitely will come back when I’m in Hobart.
