A bakehouse that caters for all different lunch menu requirements, ranging from pizza, burgers, hot chips to pies, scones & sweets. It is not gourmet nor does it pretend to be, that’s the beauty of the place.Sometimes you just need fast food. After the 10km bush walk, it was the perfect place to grab a quick lunch to continue the walk.I had a chicken wrap, nothing to rave about (it was fine). I was happy there was relatively a healthy choice, especially after the walk.High marks for ability to get fast food & range of food to cater for kids. Pie, scones and jelly slice were a hit with kiddies. Jam donut was too oily.We ate our lunch at the pier. The view was stunning.
I love this spot and I don’t know whether it’s the racks of different breads, the home made sweets and desserts or the Bain Marie filled to the brim with homemade pizza, tempura fish or just tasty nibbles. They have only three tables inside and they’re always busy. It’s one of Bellerive’s hidden gems really and it attracts the hordes of school children after 3pm when they reduce most of their food by 50%. The coffee is more milky than I’mused to, but good quality. They do great quiches, and my favorite bread is the pumpkin bread which is herby and perfect with homemade soup. A real family business that gives back to the locals. Not even the big franchised bakeries knock 50% of their goods at the end of the day for the pensioners. It’s great to go in at 4pm in the afternoon and to see them lined up to buy their cheap bread and a bit of fish for their dinner. They know what they’re doing and the difference a discount for the oldies can make to their week. Good on ya Cripps!
After reading the previous review about the scallop pie…. I had to give it a go as the bakery is just around the corner from our accommodation. AMAZING!!! The pastry was cooked perfectly, the scallop chunks were lovely and the mild curry sauce was perfectly balanced. Do yourself a favour and get down to this place ASAP and order a scallop pie!
I used to frequent this place years ago. Hadn’t been in quite a while – decided to stop in with a few mates between Christmas and NYE as nothing else was open. The service was fantastic, but the food was ordinary and quite expensive. I ordered a number of medallions, chicken wings and chicken strips and it somehow cost me over $25. To make matters worse, it was all awful. Won’t be back unfortunately.
Great service. Great place for a quick take away. Have some great bakery treats at a good price. Coffee is cheap but feels cheap as well. Decor needs attention.
Great chips and bread. They have delicious season salt they use on their chips, and their bread is fantastic with a massive range to choose from and everything looks great. Those bakers really know what they are doing. Fantastic staff, always smiling and ready to take your order. The only complaint is their overpriced cakes which I have treated myself to once or twice only to be left disappointed, I had a slice of cake there which was red velvet known for it’s density and moistness but what i received was hard and stale. I also bought a large cake from their, which was an iced sponge, but had mould on the bottom so I never got to taste it. My advice is stay away from the cake slices and always check for mould!!
The BEST scallop pies in Hobart . . . as well as other delights. Was in Hobart for work (Jan 2014) and was trying lots of scallop pies. Went to Cripps on an internet recommendation. I wasn’t disappointed. The best scallop pie in Hobart by far – not too much curry (but enough) lets the scallops shine. A bit of an eclectic mix, it’s a bakery and pie shop with eat in facilities and hot / cold drinks but also does great chips and battered / crumbed fish (which is great tasting and value too) and other take away hot food.
