Decent pub food, my drunken Irish chicken was great- chicken slightly over cooked but sauce worked well n veggies too.. salmon special solid.. oysters ok, go natural not the kilpatrick.. The lass who brought out our meals was great, but the old lady behind the bar taking orders was just unnecessarily bitter and unhelpful – her attitude off putting. Otherwise a solid meal. Limited options for young kids, esp for drinks, but bringing pens n colouring pages straight away was a nice touch – again our awesome waitress. Small ok local wine list, nothing amazing but not bad. Pleasantly surprised for such a small town in winter with only the one place open.. except for pizza.
Nothing to write home about. Pub service at restaurant prices. It was o.k. Service was very average – no cutlery available until meal was cooling – but the view is nice.
Poor service. Was like we were invisible and they didn’t want us there. Unhelpful when asked how much longer food would be. Even though we had to wait a long time for food when it did arrive it was cold.
Stayed one night in Bicheno on our way down to Hobart. Was recommended to eat here by our accommodation lady. I had the Seafood Chowder (entree $18) and my husband had the Parma ($27). You seat yourself and order at the bar when you’re ready so can’t comment on service. Chowder was ok, seafood didn’t seem that fresh and there was only tiny bits of fish, scallops, small prawns, and the smallest piece of Moreton Bay bug I’ve ever seen in it. Parma was average and bland. Side salad was not dressed so it was very dry. Charging an extra $2 over a chicken schnitzel for some jar sauce and cheese is ridiculous. Views were nice.
Meals range between $20-40 and most are served with chips and salad (after a few days of a lack of fresh veges, I was very happy to see this). Food was ok – nothing great to rave about and no epic fails although the tuna steak was cooked through, rather than seared briefly. The bistro was packed for a Monday night but that could be because there are very few local dining options at night time.
Came for dinner and it’s pretty busy here considering that passing a lot of other places were quiet. I like the menu,it’s different. My dukkah chicken burger wasn’t bad and my partners fish and chips are better than your average fish and chip shop. The batter was soft and flaky. Food came out at a reasonable rate and price wise a little more than expected. If you want to try something different come here
This place has a very relaxed vibe, billiards, pokies, keno and most importantly hearty honest pub food. My beef was sensational and the lamb cutlets on minted pea and potato mash delicious. Add a glass of Devils corner Pinot noir and it’s a great spot at the end of a tourist day to unwind.
