I have been here a few times now, the first time being in 2013. The food was much better back then. Upon returning in 2016 the menu didn’t look anywhere near as appetising. While the starters were all very tasty and had a wide range of flavours; the mains had very limited choices. Everything on the menu looked quite similar and followed the same basic pattern. The venue is fancy so prices are to be expected, however the food is nothing to write home about.

The Beach Restaurant in Blackmans Bay has been around for close to fifteen years, serving as a restaurant which bats above the average in the area – although the food options on the esplanade have dramatically improved in recent years. The outlook of this place over the beach and estuary are definitely special. The food on this occasion was good without being perfect. I had the seafood chowder and an oyster kilpatrick side. The latter was actually a twist on (and better than) your traditional kilpatrick. The chowder was okay, the seafood was fresh, but perhaps wasn’t quite as tasty and pungent as a chowder should be. It was wrong to say it was bland, but it wasn’t hitting the mark to the point where I’d ever order it again.Other dishes: the lamb shank was good, meat fell off the bone, veggies served were good. The fish and chips were nice – fresh trevally. One downside with the service: our fish was presented to another table – looked as though there had been a confusion with the order – ultimately it was sent back. However, at this point the wait staff left the fish on the counter for over ten minutes until our other meals were ready. Once served the fish was no longer warm, but to the credit of staff, once this was pointed out they quickly made prepared a fresh dish. I like this place, but they just need to be careful not to take shortcuts in a small market – especially when you’re charging $26 for fish and chips.

A let down. I have been here a good few times and everytime I go it gets worse! The pizza and entrees are good, but the mains are very un exciting and poor quality. Last time we went my salmon was way overcooked and so was one steak, but the other steak was perfect (both were meant to be medium rare). I like the service and the location, i just hope they raise there standards on the mains! I am preferring Sufuso at the moment! Yummy meat!
