Our dining experience at The Horseshoe Inn was disappointing, to say the least. The staff, although lacking some basic food knowledge, seemed friendly enough. However, having dined in many pubs in and around Hobart, the food we recieved could only be described as poor in comparison, especially for the prices being asked. Our table consisted of four people and after unsuccessfully trying to determine the country of origin of the flathead fillets on offer (the staff didn’t have a clue, other than they ‘came from the freezer’), we gave up and all decided to just order chicken schnitzels (how hard could it be to stuff up a schnitzel, right?).The food arrived prompty, but unfortunately it was all downhill from there. The schnitzels were advertised and ordered with chips and salad. We would have been lucky to have 6-8 chips on our plates and what I was expecting to be a nice, leafy side salad, turned out to be a small bowl of soggy, pre-made coleslaw. The few chips that we did recieve tasted strongly of fish, from cooking oil that clearly hadn’t been changed in a while. The consistency of the schnitzels around the table was terrible. Two meals were significantly smaller (they looked like kids meals) and over-cooked than the other two and the pepper sauce was salty to the point of nearly being inedible.Another thing which really annoyed me, was that if you wanted a sauce/gravy on your $24.50 schnitzel, then you had to pay an extra $2 for it! This is the only establishment that I have ever been to that charges extra for an initial serve of gravy.Talk about leaving a bad taste in your mouth!’Pub Food’ shouldn’t mean sub-standard food, especially at the prices being asked at The Horseshoe Inn.
