Good pub food. A steak and very fresh green vegetables cooked to perfection and roast of the day another good choice. Straightforward food but very tasty. Order and pay at the bar.
Casual dining. I am a guest of the hotel and dined here. Then checked the rating with horror. But see the reviews were older. Night special was well cooked. Bar service was very polite. Hotel undergoing some reno’s. Not fine dining but a pleasant casual experience well above the 33% rating.
1834, it is believed, was named after the expiry date imprinted on all of pantry’s ingredients. The Bircher muesli is like nothing else I’ve ever had. No seriously, it was like NOTHING I’ve ever eaten before. If you’re staying overnight ensure you ask for a room overlooking he atrium. This way you’ll know when the staff have finished packing up the restaurant for the night (about midnight) and when it reopened for breakfast (about 5:30). So you only have to wait for five hours between courses, but if like I did, can take full advantage of your room’s bathroom facilities. The hotel has also done an excellent job of physically recreating some of Escher’s finest staircases.
I was most impressed with the chefs talents with regard to his creativity using a single sauce……..fish in white sauce-chicken in white sauce-muesli in white sauce…..you name it, this chap can do it with white sauce !
Just had dinner here and would have to say fantastic, new menu, friendly service, but a bit of an interior facelift would make a huge difference
Worst Restaurant in Hobart. Ordered lunch, chicken Caesar salad and requested that my poached egg be boiled hard, as I didnt want the yolk runny.Arrived within 20 mins but had not acted upon my request so got poached runny egg, sent back and got another egg, still poached & runny. Said not to bother and would go without but insisted that they try again.15 mins later another arrives with a hard boiled egg in a shell for me to peal, see photo. What a joke, will not return again. This is positively the worst service and meal I have ever received, something so simple like a ceaser salad with a hard egg and they cant get it right. Even when they took back my meal to replace they left the old salad in the bowl with runny egg yolk through it, I mean really think the chef needs a simple lesson in presentation and how long eggs need to be cooked for. Do yourself a favour, I have had better salads from Sumo Salad!
Waited almost two hours for room service. Food is one of the worst I have ever had. Downstairs breakfast is thirdWorldStandard
