It’s a bit awkward when you want to eat between 3-6pm as a lot of restaurants, pubs are not open or not serving meals. So, by accident we found this place serving, so we looked at their menu and it’s not cheap. All the Main starts over $30 and nothing that jumps out- typical pub meals. We were sick of paying a lot for something we don’t even fancy. With this second trip in Tassie, we got a lot of disappointing food-same as last time- it’s hard to find good place to eat. We thought Tassie was full of fresh food- but according to a local, all the seafood go to Melbourne and Sydney market first, then comes back to Tassie from there. Hmmm. Anyhow we ended up ordering 2 entres, mussels in tomato and chilli & Salt and pepper calamari. They were around $16 mark. The serves were generous! And my partner was really happy with the mussels, I was more happy with their chilli oil than the calamari I ordered. Overall, both of the dishes were under seasoned, but their chilli oil certainly made up for it!
Nice atmosphere in cosy dining room and friendly service. We had lunch here after walking around Hobart town so we arrived hungry. Generous serves of decent (if lacking in inspiration) food at reasonable value for a prime tourist location. Scrapes in for a 4 all things considered.
One of the best meals we had in Hobart. Nice, unpretentious gastro-pub fare, very generous portions and given it’s tourist trap location, price was OK. The kids meals were so big 2 of our 3 couldn’t finish them, we only wanted a small meal so shared the seafood taster, which was excellent, based on that had the cheese platter, which was just as goodYou could easily get a cheaper meal if you head away from the port/salmanca place precinct, but then you’d loose the ambience
Overpriced. I had beef and reef for $46. The eye fillet was cooked medium but still chewy and under seasoned. Food is ok but not worth what they charge. Ambience was lacking with cold white lighting.I would mot return with so many better options in Hobart.
Customs House is an old favourite and they have recently done up the main bar. Food is always of a good standard, especially the seafood. Excellent wine list with some crackers on the reserve list if its a special occasion.
My husband and I had dinner here tonight. The food was fantastic! We had the market fish and the pappardelle ragu and both were cooked well and wonderfully flavoured. This was definitely high quality food for a reasonable price and I will be recommending this restaurant to others.
The food was average at best and very expensive! We ordered scallops and marinara. The scallops were tasteless and looked like they’d come from a frozen packet! The marinara was a bit better but not worth the price charged. The service was also poor. Sorry but we expected better!!!
