So. Sunday afternoon. In Sullivan’s Cove, in the city. Sun is shining and there is some time to kill. What to do? Well, a food platter and some whiskey sampling is the obvious answer staring you right in the face. This is exactly what we did at the Lark Distillery Whiskey Bar.We ordered the mixed platter of Tasmanian blue, Brie, and crumbly cheddar, along with olives and pickles. But the real star of the day was the whiskey itself.Tasmania has some fine whiskeys, with Lark itself a great exponent. In addition to sampling the local nectar we ordered a tasting platter of Japanese whiskeys for something different. Because whiskey – and Lark for that matter – is less about parochialism and more about celebrating the best the globe has to offer. On this score both Japan and Southern Tasmania are right up there.Add to this the ambiance of a sunny Hobart afternoon in the courtyard at the back of the bar – surprisingly peaceful for the middle of the city – this was a cracking visit.
