Dinner with friends on a Saturday night just a couple of weeks before Xmas with no trouble getting a booking and quite a few empty tables, should I have been worried? The missus had eaten at the Royal Thai a few days prior and said it was good, so what could go wrong? Well actually not too much, we all had starters which included Octopus a Scallop dish, and a couple of Prawn variants, all were ok but two of the dishes could have been hotter, For mains I opted for the Thai fried fish that wasn’t as spicy as suggested but none the less, tasty and the Missus went with the Chicken Curry also eaten without complaint, the Beer and Wine list is just ok but the Royal Thai also offers BYO. the service is friendly and attentive in a restrained way. The bill was about average for this type of outing , Also, being away from the main restaurant area of North Hobart parking is a lot easier The Royal Thai is a middle of the road dining experience that fills a niche nicely
Just ran in and picked up takeaway while staying in Hobart and was super impressed. Delish food and really quick! Would recommend. Also – I’m a veggie and there was a great selection – tofu with peanut sauce – so good.
Quite possibly the most disgusting Thai meal purchased anywhere ever. The same concoction of tired, overcooked, old soggy vegetables in both a curry and a stir-fry, both floating in sickly sweet concoctions that almost certainly came from a bottle and seemingly reheated at least once. This meal was so bad that it makes fasting a highly attractive proposition. Can’t understand the other positive reviews.
Great food. Good portion sizes. Clearly marked gluten free options. Good service. Stumbled upon this place after another local Thai was closed and had a pet dog inside on a Thursday night. Would definitely come back. Recommended.
Total Rip-Off! Average food. The most expensive average thai food with miniature portions. Dine in only if you have some money to splurge without getting any value for it. A small portion of soup costed us 16.50 AUD. 2 adults and one child dined for 59 AUD for 1 lemonade, 2 soups, one veg red curry and 2 small portions of steamed rice and felt robbed at the end. Food was really very average.Never recommend it to anyone with the options of other world class restaurants in Hobart.
Very expensive for what you get, I’ve been to much nicer Thai restaurants for less. Overall the food is decent- and if your looking for a nice restaurant with good food then this is the place, just be aware of the price tag attached.
Eat in: $$$, Take Out: $$. Royal Thai has some delicious food and a great atmosphere, it is a shame that their takeout is so much cheaper otherwise I would eat in more often!Save yourself some money and order from their takeout menu, which can be found online. It has many of the same options as their eat in menu.
