I’ve been here many times and Sawak has never failed to impress! Being a Malaysian myself I would say it serves the most authentic Malaysian food in Hobart. Food is very reasonably priced and comes out fast as well.
Came here for dinner when the place is almost full. Ordered their Fish Curry, CKT, Combination Laksa and Nasi Lemak with Chili Prawn. The Chef has Indian heritage so instinct naturally leads us to Curry style dishes. Most of the dishes are acceptable. Service is good, food came out reasonably quick. The only memorable dish is the Nasi Lemak. Tasty and fresh. The Fish Curry is a bit too runny and taste a bit tart. The CKT is blend and the Combination Laksa is a bit disappointing.
Incredible aromas of authentic Malay food as soon as we entered. The food did not disappoint, and was very tasty and very reasonably priced. Loved that they served sambal too, brought back fond memories of travelling during the experience.
Wow!! Service was outstanding and the food phenomenal! The dumplings were moist and tender and generally some of the best I’ve ever had. The veg curry and black bean rice were delicious and fresh, we had constant indegestion unable to stop eating them. The veg puffs were also very nice. On top of this we ordered take away and the team made everything fresh in under 10 minutes which is mind blowing. Can’t wait until I’m hungry again so we can return.
We really enjoyed our dinner here – we tried the chicken wings, roti canai, char kway teow and nasi lemak and it was all good. The flavours were authentic and the prices were almost Malaysian too. BYO with free corkage was a bonus.
A great little no-frills venue that provides tasty and authentic meals efficiently and with very polite service. We particularly enjoyed the roti with curry sauce! Thanks guys – we’ll keep coming!
Great food, quickly served and no fuss. It was a cheap and cheerful place but did not disappoint when the food came. Food quality was high and I was happy with the freshness of all the ingredients used. Fried chicken was just out of the fryer and piping hot. There was enough without being too much for two people who had just come back from a full day of tourist-ing without lunch. Had we wanted we could have gorged ourselves for under $50.Food:Nasi Lemak with fried chicken.Chicken curry with riceRoti with curry sauce600ml soft drinkTotal price $31 and one heck of a steal for dinner. Would definitely go back. Would have gotten 5/5 if the draft under the front door wasn’t so noisy. A small consolation for a very busy dinner spot.
