Overall disappointing experience. Below average Vietnamese food (although to be frank – Vietnamese food in Tassie is generally pretty shocking) at a price that reflects its prime location on Salamanca Place. Good if you’re desperately craving Vietnamese (not many options around), but I wouldn’t go out of my way to pay this restaurant a visit.
Great service and good good. Went in on a Sunday and it was quiet. The spicy beef exports noodle is great and so was the chicken last my wife had. Will definitely come back again.09 Mar, 2015Spicy Noodle Beef. Loved the spicy beef noodle.
Delicious fresh food, great service, clean & comfortable little eatery, $ very reasonable for the location highly recommend
Awful. Cheap. Not actually vietnamese food but cheap and dodgy asian.
Good honest Vietnamese food. Delicious
Cheap eat!. Inexpensive, fairly good portions, but no ambiance and not overly friendly staff; If you can put up with the latter two then Vietnamese Kitchen is great value as its cheaper prices than most of the restaurants in the Salamanca area. As it was a cooler day and a nice hot soup was what we were craving, my partner and I entered Vietnamese Kitchen and started looking over the menu. Asked a couple of times by a female behind the counter we said we just need a bit more time to which she didnt say a thing and just disappeared. Not very welcoming and I felt like she didnt care if we were there at all.Deciding to stay, my partner ordered the Prawn Laksa ($12) and I had the Spicy Beef Noodle soup ($11). We paid and took a seat in the almost empty restaurant. We did notice a few locals coming in and getting more of a greeting than we got, and ordering food to go. A good sign. Our soup appeared a short time later and was accompanied with a generous plate to share of bean sprouts, basil and a couple of lemon wedges. The soups were steaming hot and smelled wonderfully savoury! My spicy noodle beef had a large amount of noodles with a bit of onion floating around. (I would have liked a few more veggies in it though.) The broth was quite spicy, not for the faint of heart, which was nice and warming on such a cold day! The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the beef. Not as tender as I would have expected for a soup. It was tough and obviously a lower cut of meat. But for $11, it was not bad.My partners soup contained 4-5 big juicy prawns with onion and carrots included in the broth. The aroma of this soup was beautiful as there was a nice, subtle hint of coconut milk both in the bouquet and on the palate. The only thing my partner and I would have changed besides the lack of warmth in the customer service, and non-atmosphere would to have the soups a touch larger and to definitely contain more veggies. Other than that, when comparing prices of other establishments, Vietnamese Kitchen is pretty good value for your money!
Don’t do it. My husband and I are suckers for asian soups of any description – ramen, pho, laksa… so we wandered past this place and thought: pho? Sold. What we recieved was a random approximation to what pho could be if it was cooked by someone who had never had pho before. It was bland. It had no accompaniments. It was luke warm. And the noodles were well, well overcooked. I was so sad that I stopped after 3 mouthfuls which is unlike me when it comes to food. Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else, this place is terrible.
