Excellent service and lovely ambience. Food was to a high standard as well! Pea veloute was exquisitely smooth and the eye fillet cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.
We dined at Highland Restaurant for a ‘special’ night, and after reviewing all the restaurants on the mountain, this seemed like the nicest option. We ordered entrees and mains – the food was quite tasty, home-cooked style, and I appreciate that there are limited resources available up on the mountain, so for that I think they did a good job. However, our experience certainly didn’t warrant the $35-40 per main meal price tag. Service was good, however obviously trainees, our bread rolls were stale and a surcharge for using credit card (regardless of Visa/Mastercard/AMEX) was a bit rich. If the prices reflected the experience, I would give Highland Restaurant a better review. Not bad, but not great.
Not what we expected. Food was average and in the case of the chicken roulade very dull. The staff when we were there were untrained to the point where we refused to let them continue pouring wine and water for us and just took the bottle. It would be fine if you weren’t paying fine dining prices.
As guests of the lodge we dined at the Highland Restaurant for breakfast and dinner. For our evening meal, my husband ordered the chefs special: pork belly with sausages and cassoulet. To our dismay the cassoulet appeared to be the ‘baked beans’ from breakfast laced with a heavy hand of chilli powder – the sausages appeared to be leftover from the mornings buffet too. $42 a hefty price to pay for unwanted buffet, no doubt manhandled by guests and staff alike.Review = terrible
Big expectation…not fulfilled. Family of 5 staying in one of the lodges…kids meal portions not big enough, neither were the adults. Local wine chosen from the cellar was undrinkable. Water glasses too small. No dressing on my son’s side salad. Venison with strawberries and artistic root veges? Thank goodness for having ordered a side of mash. Seriously, get real about regional recipes, portions and service. Then try for something more ambitious.
What can I say. I’m a realist. The food? Pretty average, I can cook better after 3 pints and I haven’t done my weekly shopping. The menu? More imagination in a kindergarten fingerprinting. The serve size? I still wanted to go chew the furniture afterwards. Ladies and gents, my recommendation is there is plenty of wildlife to run over on your way here, feel free to put it in the boot and light your own fire because it will still outclass this place. The cherry on the cake was my entree, and I don’t exaggerate here, was served on a bathroom tile that you could buy at Bunnings for 50 cents. Don’t bother my friends. Cook back at your accommodation. Or do as the Tibetan monks and starve for an evening. Because anything is better than this overpriced rubbish….
We went here on a friday night for my partners birthday. The food was ok, but I hate to say, it was very bland! Was expecting a lot more and was quite disappointed with the result. $200 bill was steep for something I could have cooked better! Such a beautiful location, it’s a shame 🙁
