Good pub food. Hard to fault a perfectly cooked steak. Obviously high grade of meat used as well. Salad and chips the perfect compliment to the steak. Can’t fault a pepper sauce that strayed slightly fromA traditional pepper sauce (can’t put my finger on it but certainly a sweeter taste) – but still delivered a good peppery bite when coupled with the steak. Would recommend sporties. A nice selection of beers on tap.
Generous servings, tasty affordable pub-grub and a nice warm well-lit interior for a winter lunch. A couple of good dark beers on tap and a relaxed atmosphere. Had the bangers and mash. Great value and really impressed.
Great little spot, tasty food, big meals friendly staff, left satisfied and happy
Great way to start the New Year. Great pub food. Excellent and generous mixed grill. For $27 the value for money and quality and quantity were worth it.Will go back againg
Was served a very burnt meal. Sent it back and waited over half an hour to recieve the replacement. The replacement meal was OK but I was eating by myself while my partner was waiting.
Who would have guessed?. After having a disastrous main meal else where (see Jail house grill) we opted for Sporties for dessert. We knew that we would be cutting it fine for the kitchen closing but decided to chance it. We were greeted by an of course you can when we spoke of our intentions, would you like to sit by the fire on one of the couches this place was winning me over and I hadnt even sat down yet. The restaurant was busy but the waitresses were calm and attentive. The other patrons looked happy and that they were having a good time. We were given the dessert menu and though small all the items were tempting and it was hard to decide. We settled on Crepes Suzette (which I havent had since I was a little kid in the 80s) and profiteroles. Two liquors on ice served in bandy balloons completed in indulgent scene. The crepes were covered in an orange and Benedictine sauce, and whilst I could have done with a little less orange zest, the sauce complemented the crepes. My only suggestion would be that it could have been served with a little ice cream or cream. As a long standing custom states, my boyfriend and I swap plates half way through. The chocolate sauce on the profiteroles was divine, I would have been quite happy just to have that on ice cream. Though the profiteroles did not convince me that they were house made they were still yummy. We languished on the couch whilst the waitress intermittently checked on us to see if we wanted, more wine or more dessert. They seemed happy for us to chill there all night. The atmosphere was more of a classy restaurant than a bistro attached to a hotel. It was a pleasant end to an otherwise dreadful evening (see Jailhouse grill) and will definitely be going back to part take in their main menu.
The hotel has two food options. The bar menu in the pub is great for lunches with the Le Bistro serving traditional restaurant meals. Service is warm and friendly and prices are about the norm.
