We had high expectations seeing the affordable and freshly made pasta being advertised by The Pasta Merchant. The mixed vegetable salad arrived with a lovely tangy dressing and a colourful array of mushrooms, spinach and capsicum. Although an extra serving of vegies would have made this pasta a tad fresher and crisper! Unfortunately, the ‘gourmet’ hot clam pasta was an immense let down, having just been reheated from the microwave. The pasta (which was made daily) arrived on the table both overcooked and almost translucent. In addition the clams in the sauce had shrunk to the point of insignificance and were rubbery.Overall, we appreciated the homemade pasta but were disappointed by the fresh produce being tainted by the utilisation of the microwave. whenfoodiesmeet.wordpress.com
This is a good option if you are looking for a cheap and cheerful dinner. It seems to be avery popular takeaway spot for locals – but we opted to eat in. It’s not fine dining – the food is pre-prepared and heated up in a microwave, but it was surprisingly good. The pasta was al dente and the sauces were tasty. We ordered a couple of pasta meals, a salad and a gelato and it came to about $20 per head – very reasonable.
Unbelievably cheap place for lunch which is no doubt very popular especially for the people working or visiting the hospital just down the road. The pasta is made in house and fresh, the only down side is the sauce is reheated in the microwave, right in front of your eyes. For certain sauces, this method works just fine, but for the hot clam sauce, it can ruin the clams as they can come out quite tiny and rubbery. The sauce is delicious and given how busy they are, I am surprised they havent invested in a Bain marie or something similar to keep the sauces hot and ladle that onto the pasta. Would recommend for a tasty cheap filling meal especially on a cold day, roughly 300 days a year in Launceston!
