Lunch at the Boat House today for a party of eight, this place has never been a favourite of the missus and I but was picked for locality, the wait staff are friendly and helpful but after that all else is at best average, I opted to share the grilled octopus and a serve of the potatoes cooked in duck fat and unfortunately after a longish wait the octopus was served cold and there was a few moans about the seafood chowder being more like curried potato soup, the pacing of the service was a bit haphazard The deserts on offer were varied enough for most palates although the frangelico that was an accompaniment to my tort looked suspiciously clear? Probably not likely to return

Visiting from Perth, my husband chose the Berber Chicken for his lunch. It was his 79th birthday. Neither the menu nor the waitress indicated that this was a very hot/spicy dish and my husband, after a few mouthfuls, couldn’t finish it.We were told that he could choose and alternative dish but that he would have to pay for both. He opted to go without. On being presented with the bill my husband said that he was not prepared to pay for the chicken because it was inedible. The manageress said that he had no choice but to pay. My husband insisted that he would not pay for the chicken. The manageress, during a short exchange during which no one shouted or was abusive, finally agreed to this but only on the condition that he would ‘never return’.This stunned us.If the restaurant had offered my husband a small plate of complimentary food and expressed the hope that we would have a better experience next time, we would have paid the full bill.He did in fact pay a token amount for the chicken by paying in cash and rounding up the payment to the next ten dollars. We feel that the manageress needs a lesson in customer relations and that she let the Tasmanian tourist industry down badly.

Service was good but long wait. Great location. Food was ok but nothing amazing.

Delicious with a lovely view. I have yet to be disappointed by a meal in Tasmania and my dining experience tonight met my high expectations. My partner and I had the duck and the chowder as entrees, both were very tasty and were very quick to come out to our table. Steak and the swordfish special as mains. Again, very tasty and very filling. We topped it off with a Turkish delight sundae that was served topped with a different but delightful Persian fairy floss. We each had Tasmanian wines, me the pinot noir and she the sauvignon blanc.

Order was mixed up which lead to us being pretty annoyed. But when the food came out all was forgiven as it was quite delicious. We had the lamb (big hearty meal) and the Blue Eye (very well cooked, and lovely accompanying morsels). Overall good food, but marred by the original mix up – my feelings might have changed if the staff worked a little harder to make up for it, but they didn’t really seen to care!
