We had a bad start with a forgotten wine order but that was fixed with an apology and desert wine on the house. As for the food it was as good as I have eaten
We have ordered roasted duck, baked eggs with sea urchin, slow cooked beef, fried rice and stir fried vege. I wont recommend the baked eggs with sea urchin, as the way it was cooked totally destroyed the fresh taste and sweetness of the sea urchin. Beef is very soft and tasty as it is slow cooked. The other dishes are quite nice as well. Service is average. We waited for at least 10 mins to have someone finally turned up to take our order, and waited for 20-30 mins for the roasted duck to appear on our table. Finally, the price is not matching with its service and food quality, i.e. too expensive. Similar food in Melbourne is approx. 40% cheaper.

Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of the food but I did take away last night. I ordered the large fried rice, wonton, prawn omelette & got 4 pieces of dimsim(for free). The fried rice tasted like it was overnight rice, it’s very very hard to chew. The dimsum was horrible, it’s supposed to be filled with pork but it tasted like flour and it’s soggy bc they added soy sauce in it. The prawn omelette was bad and it was soaked with oyster sauce. WTF. & the wonton soup was ok (tasted like ajinomoto) but the wonton was so bad….i could taste the flour.
Overall exceptional food for Hobart standard. Decor is very clean and proper, service is attentive-tea pot was never left unattended for more than a minute (yes I timed it!) despite having only 5 front of house staff for the entire restaurant on a Sunday evening. We had 4dishes, eggplant, chicken, pork and truffle mushrooms all of which are very good. Me Wah is one of those unassuming restaurant that looks fancy from the outside with mostly western patrons (therefore one can only assume the dishes are catered to more western palate) however they definitely delivered above expectations.
Super fancy chinese, with a price tag to match, but the food is definitely worth it. We ordered the assorted dumplings, and they were all delicious, except for the fish, which had no flavor whatsoever, the truffled mushroom was definitely a standout. We also got the crab xiao long bao, fried rice and sweet and sour ribs, which were also far better than your standard Chinese. What set this place apart, however, was the crayfish and truffle won tons. I wish we had ordered a plate each, they were that good. I’ve never had anything like these in Melbourne.
Very, very, very pricey! But the food was amazing, as good as anything I’ve had in HK, Shanghai, Singapore, etc. Seafood was so fresh. Crab hot pot ($42) was amazing. Braised abalone entree ($45 for 150g) was heavenly, just wished there was more of it. Even the simple fish soup ($12) was so full of flavour.Definitely a place to come if you have the cash (or expense account) and need to impress. Its more of a dressy/formal place than casual. The service was excellent and impeccable. But I’m still hurting from the prices!
