Now called Seagrass Cafe!!Location is outstanding with views for miles in every direction.Indoor and outdoor seating in this sweetly decorated cafe.Menu is simple but they also have all day breakfast and lots of blackboard specials.Order and pay at the counter but all good and drinks are delivered to your table. The day we went it was 12 oclock and there was a 40 minute wait for food- thats not good. When it came the food was well cooked, fresh and delicious. Generous portions.Lots of gluten free options.Reasonably priced and fully licensed.Parking on site. Great spot.

This place is situated right on the water with beautiful views , had the the scallops 1/2 shell for entre and lobster straight out of the tank for main.Seafood in tassie is unrivaled and this place does it so well.Service was spot on, attentive but not in your face.Loved it.

We really loved this restaurant. The complex flavours, layering of flavours and textures and top quality, fresh Tasmanian seafood. The modern Australian style channeling French and Japanese styles was spot on.What I also found pleasing was that our four year old daughter was with us and we ordered a kids fish and chips. The fish was fresh stripey trumpeter in beer batter. Usually kids meals are reserved for yesterday’s fish and you are lucky to get a locally sourced fish even at the expensive restaurants. She loved it of course. My favourite is the tuna sashimi soba noodles and the scallops. We are foodies and eat at many of the top restaurants in Australia so we are well attuned to prices, quality, service and style or genre. This restaurant is hard to fault!! In my opinion this is the best restaurant in inner Hobart for the price. No main I saw was over $40. And they had a lunch special with entree, main and glass of wine for $38 and they were still large sizes.BTW I am amazed at the review I just read on this website before writing mine. Someone who was using a discount voucher and thought the food was expensive and bland? Obviously haven’t eaten at Heston’s restaurant at Crown lately! Or Rockpool! Hobart is a bargain when it comes to eating out. Some people just don’t know fresh seafood and expect something bourgeois – next time it is best they take their voucher to Nandos.

A lunch that promised but in the end did not deliver. We liked the decor, the view and the friendly welcome to the restaurant. The first course of scallops and squid were terrific but then came the mains – 10 minutes after – over-cooked ocean trout swimming in a bowl of chopped tasteless potatoes with apparently crab infused sauce. Although we complained twice about the fish no comment was forthcoming from the staff who obviously have been told to ignore such complaints.Desserts – a creme brulee the size of a children’s bowl of jelly.Overpriced and trading on reputation – great location – sorry about the food and the cracked coffee cup!

Don’t bother. Over priced, very ordinary food. Worst bouillabaisse I’ve ever had, it was like they opened a can of tomato soup and threw a handful of cooked seafood into it. Real let down.

Local Diner. Dined there with a large party on Saturday….we all had different dishes and everyone was just blown away by the wonderful food. I had the salted calamari as a main and after 4 years of dining out in Hobart and complaining to friends in Melbourne that I was constantly disappointed by the mediocre and dumbed-down food experiences I’ve had, finally, at last – a beautifully cooked and presented dish with an amazing subtlety of flavours and spices – ten out of ten from me and the rest of the table, everyone was so impressed – and no, we’re not easily impressed as we dine out every couple of weeks. Can’t wait to go back and work my way through the menu.
