Been to the Nth Hobart one lots. Went to this one coz the other was closed for lunch. Was not disappointed. Freshly cooked Thai food with Aus leaning. Very tasty all round. All 6 of us were impressed.

Classic banquet is a winner! We (6 ladies) decided on the banquet to do away with making choices & to fit in more gossip. The entre (satay chicken, curry puffs & spring rolls) arrived promptly to our delight. My favourite was the spring roll, it was filled with vermicelli noodles & full of flavour. The main consisted of massaman beef (yum), pork belly (yum & not too fatty), battered fish (my favourite!) & chicken green curry (my least favourite). It was fresh & vibrant with plenty of vegetables. Dessert was pannacotta which was good to finish off. We were so full! Service was attentive & friendly. We had a fantastic evening. Cost per head for the banquet was $45 pp. It’s well worth it.

Horrific Experience. I was meeting up with girlfriends and suggested we go to Vanidols South as I’d been there many times, (not within the last three months) and their food was to die for. Our entree was amazing and we were excited for main. Unfortunately, our curry was watery and flavourless, so much so we only had a couple of spoonfuls each before opting to leave it. When the waitress came to ask how things were going we confessed that we were really disappointed with the taste and consistency of the curry. She immediately apologised profusely and said she would talk to the chef and see what she could do. The owner/chef then came out to where we were sitting and told us the recipe had changed because people had complained the curry was dry, and that we were the first to complain about this new recipe. He said perhaps it was just personal preference, and we said to him that the meat was flavourless and that was more upsetting than the watery consistency. He then decided it was appropriate to tell us that we were wrong and that if he made it ‘authentically’ we wouldn’t like it. He asked us if we wanted something else, but feeling very unwelcome now we said no. The owner/chef left. Moments later the waitress came back, apologised and said the owner/chef was not going to remove the meals from our bill, even though we had only had a couple of spoonfuls each (ie the meals were barely touched). We sat at the table for a moment to consider what had just happened. Obviously, the owner/chef had offered us an alternative but as we hadn’t taken it he was going to charge full price for our meals. We called the waitress over and said we would like to order something different since our meals were going to be charged, and made our orders. A minute or so later the waitress returned and said the kitchen was closed and that she would take our meals off the bill. We were so upset by what happened. I have loved going to Vanidols South for so long but I don’t think I could ever go back after such a horrible experience. The wait staff were (and have always been) lovely, friendly and understanding, but the owner/chef was arrogant and rude.

A little overpriced but very tasty. We were very satisfied with our entre (Thai fish cakes), mains (bali ayam and a stir fry pork dish) and dessert (choc pudding), all shared. We felt that it was all a little over priced but not terribly so, and would recommend this restaurant to any diners looking for great thai food.

Terribly slow service (largely due to only one staff member looking after the whole place other than the chef)… Fortunately redeemed by the food being good
