House sitting has taken us to Sandy Bay, so we thought we’d try a little cafe that’s been on our radar for a long time…The Picnic Basket at Taroona. The vibe was buzzing, the service fast and friendly. The menu is really interesting, ranging from green eggs and ham to house made croissants to sesame crumbed chicken burgers; all at very reasonable prices. They’re licenced as well!I couldn’t say no to their breakfast burrito ($17) comprising chilli beans, corn, brown rice, pickled cabbage, avocado and sour cream. Epic in size (not normally this big apparently, but the chef was obviously feeling generous!), good flavour and a mild heat from the chilli. I couldn’t see or taste any coriander though which was a little disappointing.Karen went for ‘Eugenes’ sandwich, with pulled lamb, feta, onion, hummus on Pigeon Whole Bakers bread ($10.5). Deliciously oozy and probably the pick of the two dishes. I did find the bread to be overly crusty (soft lips sink ships ), but Karen managed ok It’s a little bit of the way for most, but worth checking out! forkandfoot.com

Looks are deceiving! The food contains superior and fresh local produce. The food looks simple but tastes incredible. Had the breakfast burrito and haloumi avo on bread. Cooked well and delivered on taste and freshness.

This place is simply spectacular. The staff are incredible, the coffee is wonderful and the food…well words fail. Suffice to say I am a VERY regular customer! And the ambience is enhanced with the recent renovations. This is THE place. Worth going out of your way for. Way out of your way!

Really LOVE this local cafe. Good coffees, and the mocha is delicious. The place has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are always friendly.

Fresh, tasty breakfast. We had a great breakfast experience at The Picnic Basket. Poached eggs, free-range bacon & rocket with delicious nut & seed toast. Plenty of tasty gluten free options. Friendly, efficient service, tables inside or out in the sun, good coffee, dog-friendly and away from the hustle and bustle.Looking forward to trying the takeaway hunza pie we simply couldn’t leave without!

Long needed in Taroona. Great to see a cafe/bakery finally off the ground in Taroona, must be a boon for the locals! On a recent visit, service was really friendly 🙂 and selection of eats all very tempting. Liked the decor and some thought has obviously gone into setting it up. Thought the coffee could do with some improvement in extraction – the crema was pretty pale and mine tasted a bit bland – am sure there is more flavour in those beans that could be coaxed out! But all in all a great spot and worth supporting.
