Every time were in Richmond, we always stop by to get some roast duck and char siu to go. This place has been around for a long time, although it was recently re-opened after renovation. In my opinion, they do some of the best roast duck around town – love the flavourful sauce that comes with it! It also seems like quite a popular Yum cha spot in the daytime as well, with a cabinet at the front where you can purchase some of their steamed buns and other yum cha delights to go.
This rating is based solely on the BBQ pork puffs (char siew sou) and egg tarts we bought from here. The BBQ pork puff pastry was so good – flaky and golden on the outside, crumbly and moist on the inside. The BBQ pork inside was generous with the crust layer relatively thin – making the consistency of the pastry even more impressive.
The egg tart also had very nice and flaky layers of pastry on the outside, rather than short crust. The egg custard was incredibly balanced between soft and firm.
Would definitely recommend these two here in particular. I’d wager that if these were marketed as part of a new store for the Millennial crowd, it would do so much better than so many of the other new stores in the CBD.
