Walked out. Awful food. Both quality of ingredients and taste were very poor. Family of 5 hated what had beenso very good years ago. This place was a friday night special years ago. You could go anywhere else and it would be better than this.

One of the worst experiences. No cutlery on the table nor sauces or napkins. Forgot drinks and when we followed them up they brought out the wrong ones. Incredibly rude waiter. Will never go back here. Ever.

Oh Quan 88, what happened? You used to be good- very good, and were my go-to place in Vic Street for more than a decade. I saw the other places come and go, some closed, some got a facelift and prices were upped. Even when your laminate tables were replaced with wood ones and you gained a liquor license you were still good and only upped your prices by a dollar or two…Your spring rolls were generous, the rice was good, your salt & pepper squid and roast duck with plum sauce were tasty and good value for money. Your Beef in Mint leaves and Chicken Coleslaw was sensational.
But alas, this has all changed. Was in the area yesterday and decided to have a nice late lunch. The BF was sick and I told him what you need is a big bowl of Pho to fix you up, and maybe some Vietnamese Chicken Coleslaw. Loads of places do this well, but we chose Quan 88.
    What a mistake.
The place was empty, and with that in mind, we chose a table and sat down, the rather distracted waiter (who was playing a game on his phone) acted like we were a great annoyance to him for being there. He practically threw menus at us. We ordered Spring Rolls, Chicken Pho And Coleslaw.

All were measly servings and the rolls didnt even come with enough lettuce for each roll or have the Vietnamese mint- just a single wilted stalk of regular mint. The Coleslaw ($15) was the smallest plate I have ever seen and it was soggy, missing a lot of accompaniments and virtually contained no chicken. The Pho was bland, weak and I swear the staff were just playing us for dumb western gwailos as the soup came out with no lemon, chilli, mint or bean shoots. By now I felt pretty ripped off, so I went and asked for some to be prepared to go with the Pho. They did this begrudgingly. Even adding the accompaniments did not redeem the bland taste and there was far too many onions in the bowl for my liking. I am not Vietnamese, but I could have made better dishes at home. The waiter kept playing his phone game, at one stage openly scoffing at us when I asked for cutlery, totally oblivious to another couple who were sat near us waiting to order.
Maybe you have kept the name and have new owners or new chefs? Whatever the case, it is not for the best. I admit, I live closer to the St Kilda Quan and hadnt ventured to the original Quan for a while, so was unaware you had gone downhill. And I am certain I will not be returning- there is plenty of other decent competitors on Vic Street that deserve my patronage and money.

Was here last week for a group dinner . We had a nice private room for karaoke. To be honest, it was amazing and lots of funs.
The service was great, the staffs always knew what you wanted. Very supportive and knowledgeable. The chicken ribs, salted and pepper squids, crispy beef are a must.
    Definitely coming back. HighlyHighly recommend.

It has been a staple for myself and my family and friends for five years, we travel 50mins to get the best Laksa and the service is above and beyond. Will recommend to anyone who loves Laksa and good Vietnamese food!

First dish out… Spring Rolls. Burnt Black. Couldn’t believe the chef would put them on a plate looking like that …. couldn’t believe the waiter had the audacity to place the burntrubbish on my table. No wonder he dumped them and ran. I immediately called him back and told him to take them off my table. No explanation given. Next dish out … beef in vine leaves. You guessed it… burnt black! What is going on in this place? It used to be good but I won’t be back. We walked.

Go to restaurant for Vietnamese. Do not be overwhelmed by basic look and decor. It delivers where it counts with food quality. Can be loud and noisy;). The bonus is the small size of the cheque:). Added bonus is BYO with a grog shop across the road if you forget:)
