This spot has a warm and welcoming entrance and feels like you are stepping into your grandmothers kitchen. This is what made me come through the door. I ordered my latte and had a seat with the paper.
Coffee soon appeared and it was possibly the most average coffee I’ve seen – looks wise. The milk was just dumped on the espresso with no texture or smoothness at all. It was a mess… In a coffee capital such as Melbourne we have really come to expect some care with presentation, as its first impressions that count.

I just had the seafood chowder, brought it back to work, then 10 minutes later ordered more! It really is the best chowder I have had in Melbourne and being a Bostonian, I know good chowder. I have never had a bad meal or coffee at the Red Bird. Local, friendly and consistent!!!

Not worth a visit. Coffee undrinkable and my Tasmanian salmon w/ ricotta tasted like salmon out of a tin. Not fresh at all! Atmosphere ‘ok’. Lacking the quirkiness of other cafes in the area.

I eat here – or grab a coffee – regularly. I’m fussy about my coffee and they do a great job. The food is great! The baguettes are particularly yummy. This morning I had a muffin (homemade by the owner) and it was ‘melt-in-the-mouth’ delicious. Last week I tried a delicious salad. I’m not one for vegetables-only experiences but, again, it was very tasty.

Nice family run cafe. Came in for a coffee with my fiancee before her exam, was impressed by the nice atmosphere and friendly manner of the staff. Would always recommend.

Beef And Onion Sourdough Baguette. Lovely couple managing a lovely cafe.
The baguettes are amazing, perfect size, many varieties…. My favorite is this one but I’m sure they are all great!!
    Thanks Tony and wife!!
