Was looking for a decent fish n’ chip place in Altona since a lot of the others have changed management and gone downhill. No chance of this at Alex’s, the owner has been running the place for over 30 years and it’s your old school fish n chip shop you all remember from your childhood. The burgers are monstrous, I didn’t realize until I got home what a serious burger it is, very fresh and tasty too. Doesn’t feel oily like some do. Ordered a potato cake to go with it and he always throws in an extra plus a handful of chips. Have found my new local moving forward.
Chips nicely seasoned not being to salty, potato cake was good, the fish tasted fresh but need chairs and tables. We had to sit on the ground outside to eat.
Disappointed in this one, food was very oily and we threw half out as we couldn’t eat it. Service was lovely and friendly though our order took quite a while
Alex’s is one place that rarely disappoints, a beautiful golden brown piece of fried fish and the rest when you come to this local favourite.
It might not be the best fish and chip I’ve ever tasted, but it is honest good food and great service. The old couple running the shop was very friendly with the gentlemen taking Order and in charge of the fryer, the lovely lady focusing on grilling those golden delicious fish at the corner. It’s like back in old times when the shop owner greets everyone by their names. It was my first time there with hubby and son. Before packing all the golden goodness to the paper bag, the gentlemen hand over another big piece of crispy Whiting just for the little one with no extra charge. How often to do find this gestures in the business nowadays? We end up finishing the whole lot seating on the beach and end up that fantastic afternoon!
Great local fish and chip shop! Used to make up takeaway boxes for Alex as a kid in exchange for potato cakes. Grilled fish and a hamburger with the lot is my recommendation.
Traditional fish and chips.. You would be hard pressed finding a better fish shop.been going here for years.
