This place is so cute! A nice place to visit down the coast. The coffee is not great, specially if you order soy, ive been around 10-15 times and my coffee is always burnt. If youre visiting Id recommend just getting a sausage roll or pie or one of the pastries. Some of the bigger dishes are insanely over priced for what youre getting.
Not only is the tranquil surrounding of the cafe’s nursery absolute perfection, but the food was great too! I had the eggs on corn bread and added bacon. Boy, was I glad I added the bacon! I’m not sure where it’s sourced from or how it was cooked but that was the tastiest bacon I’ve eaten. Slightly on the pricey side for how large the dish was but otherwise I’d go back for more!
A friend of mine recommended McGains on Facebook about 3 days ago and it was a coincidence that I was heading down the Great Ocean Rd today so I thought I may as well try it. I left Melbourne quite a bit later than expected so I actually arrived here 15 minutes before closing time. The people working here were still very welcoming and the young lady even complemented me on my dress.
I found it a bit tricky to pick because I didnt know what I felt like. I picked the falafels and prayed to the falafel gods that it wouldnt be dry. They asked me if I wanted to have the beetroot or the normal falafels and I asked if I could have both and they said yes. My falafel prayers were answered and they werent dry at all. The original ones were crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, Im not an expert in falafel but I believe these were the right texture. The spices in it were good too. The beetroot falafel wasnt crispy on the outside, I suspect thats because of the beetroot but it was still delicious and the beetroot added some earthiness. The hummus was yummy too. The falafels werent served with pitta, instead it was just served with salad. The salad was nice enough, it looked and tasted pretty healthy and there was heaps of it, I wouldve said there was too much salad but I actually ate it all. I wouldve said this was the healthiest meal Ive had in a long time but Im not sure if the falafel was deep fried.
As I said earlier the people working here were very friendly and welcoming. Its also a beautiful cafe with heaps of plants which is attached to a nice nursery and a vegetable shop. I would love to come back here and maybe invite some friends.
Beautiful location/surrounding. A nursery with a tucked away cafe. Didnt get a chance to get a coffee but ordered some type of pita with spinach and cheese which was tasty but a mountain side salad consisted of what seem like lettuce carrot and cucumber. Keen to try more of the menu.
The food here is delectable!!!!!!!! It also has a great little organic shop the us well stocked with wonderful produce. We have been know to drive quite a distance to enjoy this food!
Had the most amazing breakfast here this morning and the coffee was perfect – and made with organic milk. Service was friendly, staff are happy and the setting is beautiful. I got savoury buttermilk waffles with pickled fennel, labne and smoked salmon. Generous serving and perfectly balanced dish. It’s pricey for breakfast at $21 but I know they use good produce and I’d rather pay an extra $4 for an amazing dish than eat something sub par elsewhere on the coast for $16.
Could not fault the whole experience.
We found this hidden gem thanks to our airbnb host. It is such a fabulous location. Coffee was great. I had the poached eggs on sourdough with bacon and smashed avocado. It was all so fresh and wonderful and a very generous portion of avocado. We had two babies in our group and it was a great place to have breakfast and relax. We will definitely make the trip down again to taste the other delights on the menu.
