The ambience at Casalingo was lovely, as was the wine. We had garlic bread to start which was nice but 2 of the pieces had garlic on only half the bread. I ordered the prawn ravioli which was really tasty and the portion size was great. My husband had a pizza and whilst nice, it was so small! It would have passed only for a ‘small’ size in Melbourne. I couldn’t help but feel they were really capitalising on the holiday crowd here, as of certainly wasn’t cheap. All in all, a nice meal, but I’m not sure they would get away with these flaws in the city!
Rude and racist staff member. I (Indian) went in to have dinner with my friends and the staff (guy) straight away said ‘ you can’t just walk through without any reservations’.There is a way of talking to the customers. Should have at least asked us to wait for a while until being seated. And when we told him that he’s being rude and racist as we were tourist and didn’t know if reservations were required, he was not even sorry and said ‘next please’. Awful experience.
We ordered gnocchi with beef ragout which was lovely and the lasagna which was a bit bland and possibly pre prepared and heated in the microwave but edible. The greens consisted of a mix of broccoli, snow peas and zucchini in a garlic sauce with almonds and that was tasty.
!!! Racist staff alert !!! Extremely rude to customers who are not from Australia. Great ocean is a tourist place and if these people are going to be so damn racist then I’m not sure how long they will last in the business.
