The panna cotta was delicious! A great creamy texture and the honey flavour really shone through, Elaine loved the combination with the rhubarb, she thought it was the best panna cotta she had eaten, it was pretty close for me.
I don’t know why more restaurants don’t offer dishes containing pasta and chickpeas. It’s a delicious combo, and one steeped in Italian culinary history. There are apparently endless variations of pasta e ceci–brothy ones, tomatoey ones, pureed ones–and the Zia Rina’s Cucina version with thick pappardelle and chunks of Italian sausage did not disappoint. Zia Rina herself seems to be everywhere–in the kitchen, serving the food, answering the phone when you call to make a booking, or today, arriving with bags full of groceries as we dined. Between the warm service, tiny restaurant and extremely generous portions, it feels like you’re dining in the home of your new-found Italian family.Pictured: Pasta e ceci with Italian sausages, Gnocchi di patate with wild mushrooms and Tassie truffles
This is a very small Cucina and doesn’t feel crowded albeit noisy. The menu and specials board are comprehensive, and it all sounds delicious and is. Amazingly authentic complex dishes made with love. However, the prices are pricy and $32 for an entree sized risotto is ridiculous.
