Food: We’d walked past here many times and drooled over the cakes in the window so though we would give it a try. Unfortunately the cakes aren’t as good as they look. The caramel slice was far far too sweet, and my macaroons were completely mismatched in size – one of them was tiny, they were soggy and lacked flavour. So disappointed.

Atmosphere/service: The cafe was quiet (after trying the cakes I can see why), but was clean and comfortable. The service wasn’t great we were initially ignored, then we were finally served but there was little care taken or niceties such as offering us glasses with our drinks, checking if we had enjoyed our food or asking if we were finished before taking our plates away. Not awful but still pretty disappointing on such a competitive strip of cafes.

Would I recommend it: No, there are so so many better cafes in the Carlisle Street area which would really wow you, don’t waste your time here!

The best food in Balaclava! The veggie burger is amazing, really THAT GOOD. The service is great and the coffee delicious. The potato rosti is a must try at breakfast

Cakes look great, but the food is outstanding. This is an authentic Polish restaurant and they wowed my mother, who being born in Poland, and picky with food at the best of times, is hard to please these days. She really enjoyed everything she ate.
They have traditional tripe and sauerkraut dishes, their schnitzels are every bit as good as the old Scheherazade used to be on Acland Street (which is the highest accolade you can give a schnitzel).
The food is just tasty and delicious without being overspiced or overwhelming.
Service was also fabulous and definitely going there often.

Went back again today. Food did not disappoint. Mum went with the tripe again and it was even better than last time. I have actually picked it up and brought it home for her a few times and she rates it ‘outstanding’ every time.
This time I went with the duck, which was excellent. It came with red cabbage which is the best I’ve ever had, and the accompanying sliced, creamed potatoes may have been a heart attack waiting to happen, but what a way to go ! Heaven in your mouth and waiting for more ! Definitely coming back.

I come to Truffles a fair bit for lunch and I’ve never been disappointed! Their food is always delicious and well presented! I love their coffee as well, it is always great! Sometimes the service can be a little bit slow but the waiters and waitresses are always lovely and accommodating. Their cakes are also to die for! The last few birthdays we have ordered a cake from here and it has been exceptional!

Came here for lunch and ordered off the all day breakfast menu. The menu was pretty standard as far as breakfast but the polish specialities was a great point of difference. I ended up ordering scrambled eggs and bacon on toast with a piccolo latte. The coffee was perfect temperature and nice and strong. The eggs creamy and bacon crispy. Very delicious! The waitress was very friendly and approachable. The decor was a bit confused but I didn’t mind. Will be back to try the pierogies!

This cafe was recommended to me by a friend who swears by the coffee and i was pleasantly surprised. I now always stop in before work and at lunch time for coffee and a bite to eat. The smashed avocado is delicious and I can not resist the danishes (never had a bad one at Truffles). My husband likes the european food on offer and we often take the time to go and eat Sunday lunch. We highly recommend the tasting platter and tripe soup .

    Bon appetite
