Ive had two breakfasts here and they were both fantastic. The first was a hot vegetarian breakfast. It was a big meal and completely delicious. The second was a toasted muesli with fruit and yoghurt. The seasonal fruit was banana and strawberries. The muesli was delicious. On each occasion I had a coffee with my meal which tasted lovely but cooled down too quickly. My son had the pancakes which looked fantastic but the maple syrup was the fake type (maple flavoured syrup) and just didn’t taste as good as the real deal. Overall, fantastic food and service.

This restaurant was very busy tonight and we were grateful to get a table as we did not have a booking. We ordered the Cob Loaf to share and a main each and specified we wanted the cob to be served with the mains. The cob though arrived on its own but we were so hungry and tucked it. It tasted great with the roast pumpkin, tomatoes and mozzarella all evident. One of the main meals followed shortly and this is where the ultimate sin was committed. Regardless of how busy a restaurant is, table orders need to be timed so meals come out at the same time. The fact we were only a table of 3, there were no excuses for the other two mains arriving 10 minutes later. This ruins the experience of eating a meal together. I ordered the Pork Special which comprised of a parmesan & spice crumbed cutlet with seared scallops, roast potatoes, apple coleslaw and thyme jus, it was delicious and I devoured the Pork right up to the bone. The spaghetti with Italian meatballs and the barramundi special enjoyed by my friends were also very good. All up the food was excellent but spoiled by time management.

Such a great place to stop over for lunch when travelling through Ballarat. Service was excellent with friendly bar and wait staff. Reasonable lunch prices. My party had:
    – beetroot and vegetable salad
    – chicken and chips
    – goat’s cheese and pumpkin risotto.
    All well presented.
Venue features a nice large court-yard (boasting pots of fresh herbs on one wall), a function room and hotel – style accomodation. The only down-side was that I suspected my celiac gluten-free meal was accidentally cross contaminated as I did have a minor ‘glutened’ reaction 10 minutes after my meal. But this is still a top-rate establishment – just be extra careful if celiac.

Oscars is a regular for me for lunch and I find that both the service and the food are consistently good. Prices are reasonable, although a bit pricey for lunch. I am happy to pay a little extra for the attentive staff, who welcome you and acknowledge you as you enter, attend to your table quickly, even when busy and are friendly and polite to customers. It’s surprising how rare that is in Ballarat.

UPDATE- went back there yesterday and found out the name of one of their star wait staff. Leah! If management are reading this, she is fantastic. Always friendly, attentive and smiling. Keep it up Leah, you rock!

I stayed here for a work trip and had a few meals here. I would usually get breakfast and a had a few dinners here. Great little place and i was definately impressed with what was served. Over the few days i had the big breakfast, lamb cutlets and house made meat pies with mash, all over which was really delicious. The service was good.
