I absolutely adore this delicatessen/ cafe ! The breakfasts served are nourishing and scrumptious. I am particularly found of the tassie devil which is a lovely play on eggs Benedict but with the substitution of Tasmanian smoked salmon instead of Ham . Great start to the day . I can never leave this place without buying some of the delectable meats or cheeses in the display casing . I assume that the Olive grove is a family owned business and I often get a sense of stepping into my friends nonas busy kitchen on tomato day ! Although the olive grove is not open late , you do have the opportunity to enjoy a glass of vino with cheese in the afternoon .

    Definitely a winner !

Great good. Fantastic service. I’m a regular customer along with my family and friends and they are always very nice to their customers and community.

Love their omelet, soups, gourmet focaccia and slovakia, and of course their coffee.

Simply, sub standard coffee, Unimaginative food selection and average service. I’d recommend l’espresso as one of the better ballarat coffee stops.

The Olive Grove is a cosy cafe/delicatessen that serves lovely and fresh Mediterranean style food. I’ve been coming here for years but since the management changed, I feel as though the menu and service has gone downhill.

Menu: Used to be heaps of stuff on there but they’ve downsized it greatly, and added a few specials that change day to day, such as lasanga or quiche. Some of the specials detract a little from the Mediterranean theme of the cuisine which is slightly off putting…

Lack of standardisation: The antipasto platter will never be the same each time you visit. It was like that in the past but at least then, they were somewhat consistent. On my most recent visits, they left out the eggplant and artichoke and barely gave me enough bread to finish off all the cheese they shoved on. On the next visit, I got a fewer pieces of meat, barely enough for 2 people to share, no eggplant but some capsicum, and again that ridiculous amount of cheese with 4 tiny pieces of bread.

Taste: This place needs to learn to season and add salt!!!!!!

Price: To sum it up, expensive. If you’re hungry and looking for value, do not order the foccacia!!! You used to get a decent sized toasted sandwich with salad but now, you get this tiny sandwich with no salad. Definitely not worth the $10 or so. And for some strange reason, the smoked salmon focaccia is now open, which means you only get one slice of bread instead of two that you used to get. Is it just me or does that seem like a dodgy way to save money? Yet, there is no difference in price…. If you’re going to have drinks, the milkshakes and juices are worth the splurge, and you can get limonatas and aranciata rossas there which is pretty cool. Stay away from the alcohol if you’re on a budget though.

Service: Back in the day, the owner used to walk around greeting and chatting to customers. These days, you’re lucky if anybody acknowledges you at all when you walk in or leave. The staff are also pretty inexperienced (although to be fair, people have left and they’ve gotten new ones in), they seem to try and do their best to ignore you by avoiding eye contact and trying to look busy, and food takes AGES to arrive!!! I waited an hr for my chicken cesar wrap to arrive and there were only 3 other people in the cafe!!!!

Other: There is also a pizza and pasta restaurant at the back of the cafe which is pricey but worth it. More so the pizza, which is so flavoursome and filling. The pasta tastes good too but you only get a small handful and it costs around $22 per dish. Steep!!!!

I want to say that this place is awesome… But I can’t do it with 100% conviction. This used to be a great place with warm atmosphere but now, a pretentious joint that is trying to attract an equally pretentious crowd. The one strength they have is that everything is made fresh, but how long can they cling onto that?

Food makes up for average coffee and somewhat impersonal service. Doubles as a delicatessen leaving little room for the cafe component. Mega and Sicilian breakfasts are delicious.
Expect to spend $50 for breakfast for two, but its well worth it

Had late breakfast French toast with maple syrup toast was not only cold but also tough and quite a long wait coffee was OK not sure if maple syrup was real or flavored have had better experience here this one not so good

Overpriced and slow forgetful service. Over $20 for a wrap is ridiculous!
