The ambience is quite nice and the service was lovely. The food was tasty, but quite overpriced. For a set menu of $58 per head we had a appetiser plate, 3 main dishes to share with roti and rice. I didn’t stay for dessert but most of our large group had the same comments – not reflective of Asian style banquet generosity at all!
Fantastic menu. As a vegetarian the gado gado was amazing. My only complaint was that I was cold from the air conditioner. Good service and very fresh food.
We ordered lemon chicken fillets, five spice duck and Thai chilli beef for takeaway. The lemon chicken was crispy and the duck was a little over cooked but overall OK. However the Thai chilli beef wouldn’t recommend as it was watery and bland.
For the quality we received, price was a bit dear. Hopefully eating in is not as bad as takeaway here.
Food nice, service not so nice! Should have known from the moment I called to book and was asked to hold, then instead of being put on hold listened to a long conversation between the restaurant owner and another friend. Finally booked, then turned up on the night only to have the young waitresses at the front giggle at me when they couldn’t pronounce my last name. With 4 of us arriving together for a booking of 7, I was asked if we were waiting on more…yes I replied…the other 3?!. At one point we had around 15 empty wine glasses on the table…nobody seemed to know what was going on…these guys need to pull their service together as it lets down some delicious food and a unique menu. Probably won’t be back for a while.
Too bad about the service!. After mixed reviews (mostly great) from friends, my girlfriend and I decided to dine here for our weekly catchup. We were greeted at the door to be frowned upon because we had not made a reservation..we apologised and they found us a seat in the empty restaurant. We ordered a couple of softdrinks and a ‘bottle of water’ which was brought out as two glasses of flat, hot coke and a bottle of sparkling water. We told the waitress that we only wanted tap water and she abruptly took the bottle and our two glasses away. She then brought back two short glasses of tap water, not bottled cold tap water. Never mind we said. As my girlfriend and I are having a big long chat, as we do, another waitress came to our table and asked if we were ready to order, I apologized as we had been yarning too much to even look at the menu, she advised us that they would be inundated with 12 tables and that we need to ‘hurry up’. I actually couldnt believe this, and at that point we should have got up and left but i did hear the food was great. We ordered a couple of dishes (kahan chicken curry and beef green curry) to share, rice for two and roti bread. The two dishes came out and a small spoonful of rice on a side plate (all other tables had a substantial amount in a bowl). We were told if we needed more rice to ask. That was fine. The meals were loverly, the hot green curry our favourite. As our roti bread hadnt come out at around half way through our meal, i called a waitress over to ask how it was going. She went to the kitchen and came back to tell us we didnt order it. I advised her that we did and we would like some and some more rice. The roti came out and we nibbled on that for some time waiting for the rice. After 15 mins waiting for rice, the remaining meals was stone cold so i advised a waiter to cancel the rice. He just said ok. Our plates were cleared and 5 mins later our bill was on our table. We went to pay and i wanted to query the 2 charges of rice as we only had 1 serving. The waitress said its per person and rudely said ‘did you both not eat the rice on the table?’. We paid for our meal and left. Both said we would never go back – a not so great first impression on us both.
My advice is to go somewhere else as the service here can not compete with the many other beautiful places around Bendigo.
Way too SWEET!. 3 of us went there after hearing so many good reports of this restaurant. Service was fine, the waiters were nice and friendly and polite. The foods were presented nicely but they were just way too sweet for our liking. We would only return if they can stop smothering everything with sugar!
Amazing evening! We spent t…. Amazing evening!
We spent the evening at the Malayan Orchid on Saturday. Without a reservation we were really grateful that the manager organise a table for us even though they were completely booked out. She also was extremely friendly , professional and helpful with the ordering process as we have many dietary restrictions. Not at all as like the very rude reviews we had read previously.
The atmosphere was really pleasant , with comfortable chairs , well spaced tables and starched white cloths on the table.
All staff were extremely attentive with each course arriving in approximate 30 minute intervals even though they were flat out.
The food was amazing. Looked incredible and tasted like heaven. Prices were very cheap as the quality was high.
This restaurant will now be a regular on our Bendigo visits
Well done everyone!
