I came here two years for my first visit to bendigo, the service was beautiful and the food was absolutely delightful, unfortunately my most recent experience was not the same. My partner and I came down from Melbourne to celebrate our anniversary and this really was the biggest let down. To start with, the food was very much average. Both of our starters were small and disappointing. I had the soft shell crab, it was dry and lacking flavour and my partner had the peaking duck pan cake, which made it seem like bendigo had a massive shortage of duck and they were trying to make it last. This left a bad taste in our mouth BUT we were staying positive for our mains. I decided to go for the beef bourguignon, or steak with mash and absolutely no jus. I wont lie the steak was cooked beautifully, but for $60 that shouldnt be a plus. My partner had the lamb, which was again, well cooked and insanely bland. I also ordered a side of the confit fennel. Fennel is my favourite so I was excited about this, half way through my main I asked where it could be? Had they forgotten? Anyway, it was then delivered to our table when we had both finished our main, we had a taste but barely touched it. Time for desert, I decided to go for a sweet and tail, a cocktail and desert pair. They came out reasonably quick which was good, I then spent ten minutes trying to stare down a waiter for cutlery to eat said desert sitting in front of me. I was soon to discover that I wasnt missing out as the peanut butter tart, was just a buttery tart with some strawberry pure. After such an amazing experience last time this was such a surprise. I hate leaving a negative review but when we were then made to PAY for the fennel which we barely got to eat because they forgot it, I was just disgusted in the lack of responsibility for bad service. My partner owns/ runs a chain of restaurants and I have been a waitress for over 8 years, we know that sometimes things dont work or go to plan, but this was just lack of care and disrespect for customers. I will no longer be recommending anyone visit this restaurant and I hope to god they can find a way to lift the standard to the quality evening they once offered.

Wow where do I begin. I was very excited to visit Rocks on Rosalind after my girlfriend visited last year but it has clearly changed a lot since then.

Firstly the food was not in line with price, it was good pub food at best but priced as so much more. I was absolutely horrified when I received the bill. We spent over $200 ( $58 for the beef didn’t help) and I was so dissatisfied and hungry when I left that I got another meal at another establishment. In particular the duck pancakes were a big disappointment , there was nowhere near enough filling or sauce for the pancakes provided. The lamb racks were also far from inspiring.

Secondly the service was poor. They forgot our side order with our mains and when we reminded them they served it after we ate we had both finished our mains. I mean who wants to eat confit fennel on its own? Then they go and include it on the bill, I work in hospitality and would never include it . Then the desert came out….without cutlery. We waited ten minutes to finally get the cutlery to once again eat an overpriced dish.

I really wanted to love this place, the venue is awesome and the staff were friendly. It was however nowhere near what I expected and was the most disappointing meal I’ve had in Australia. I’m not saying it was the worst meal ever, but for the price and hype I expected so much more.

An ambient restaurant offering many dishes on their menu. To make decisions easier we opted for the 10 course chef degustation menu with matching wines. The scallops, pork belly and beef carpaccio were the highlight of our course. The calamari was greasy, the wrapped asparagus and salad was very salty. A few other dishes were salty as well, which made the overall degustation quite disappointing.
