I didnt have huge expectations after the reviews.. but this was the best parma Ive had in Melbourne! A group of us went for Tuesday trivia which was also better than other pubs in the area. Plus you can get a parma and chips for $4.90 to chow down with your Tuesday trivia. Too good!
I came here with my family tonight. Walking in was our first mistake but we were greeted by a friendly staff member who showed us to our table. It was on the late side but the restaurant was quite empty – I was soon to find out why and it was nothing to do with the time. The pub also has a gamer’s room and a kid’s playground. We went up to the counter and ordered the Garlic Bread with cheese and the Soup of the Day which was Mixed Vege Soup and Grazier’s Porterhouse steaks for our main courses. The Cheesy Garlic Bread was admittedly a generous serving with 4 large pieces but there was way too much cheese on them which made them soggy and worse still, they were cold!! The soup was watery, flavourless and can you believe it? – cold! The main dishes, our steaks, came out very quickly which was completely inconvenient as we hadn’t finished our garlic bread entree and to make things worse the soup came out at the same time – who has a steak with a side of soup?!! Terrible kitchen organisation – were they just in a hurry to get rid of us? The steaks weren’t cooked well – mine was definitely not medium rare. It was not only overcooked but chewy and tough. The salad was the one redeeming feature – it was fresh and tasty. The chips were dry and overcooked. I mean, I’m not talking fine dining here – what chef can’t cook steak and chips? The Boundary Hotel needs to up its game if it wants to get any kind of positive feedback on the customer satisfaction cards they leave on the tables. Eat there at your own risk. Ugh.
We’ve eaten here twice before in the past and generally found the food and prices reasonable. Went with a friend on Saturday night. Ordered entrees and mains. Asked for the entrees to be sent out before the mains. Mine came out quickly. My friend’s came out after his main. Main meals took over an hour to arrive (the place was packed, though). I ordered the seafood basket and the seafood was very oily and rubbery. The fish was dry. My friend had the eye fillet, which was dry and tasteless. Overall, we didn’t have a good experience and it appears the quality of the food has decreased.
