I saw a Food Safari program that featured that shop, and naturally being of European heritage hurried to check it out. I walked into the shop but nothing on offer looked like in the program nor inviting for that matter. It just looked so…. average. The girls at the counter looked asian… Well, Europa bakery with Asian staff… So I asked if the shop changed hands recently. i knew that Food Safari was filmed a little while back. Well, I did take some baked thingies home, though I took my time, nothing looked too inviting or any special or fresh. Well, it taste same as it looked . Poppy seed and cheese cake too dense, jelly cake too australian, the jelly is artificial falvour and color, I knew it , but my daughter likes those anyway, the Opera cake looked good and was fresh, but had twice as much cream as it needed. So yeahhhhh…. very sad another iconic authentic European bakery/cake shop not what it used to be. So many of them in Melbourne changed hands recently and gone down hill.
This cake shop used to be such a wonderful cake shop, with delicious European style cakes and desserts. However i didn’t realise that in the last year or so that its changed hands, and with doing that, they cut half of cakes off the menu, and the quality of the remaining cakes in the menu went severely down hill, both taste wise, and i found a hair in my apple slice once. A true shame, this used to be one of my favorite cake shops.
