i called back into Aunt Billies recently with family visiting from NSW & NZ. We ordered drinks and mini cakes to share on what was a relatively quiet morning in the build up to Christmas. Service was good but tragically I got the double whammy of my drink arriving last and my order being wrong. Soy latte instead of a skinny one.
Hint: write it down if you cant remember 5 different drink orders.
The green juice was delicious and those mini cakes were a big hit amongst the interstates and international guests.

Sunny morning today and the outside diners got to soak up all the rays at Aunt Billies Cafe in Blackburn. We sat inside at the couples tables radiating out from the curved wood featured walls that make up one side of this aesthetic building.
We ordered hot drinks first up with my coffee (St Ali Orthodox blend) being a good hit. KD was a little unimpressed with her chai which was apparently quite bland despite being steeped for quite a while. Lactose free milk was available here which is great to see.
I was feeling like a sweet brunch today so went for the berry and lemon meringue pancakes and KD the trout bruschetta from the specials menu.
My pancakes were inspired and the lemon curd almost as good as the home made stuff KD does. I loved the inclusion of chocolate and how about half was melty and the other half crunchy. The mini meringues had a bite to them and I found I had little difficulty polishing off the lot.
KD enjoyed her trout bruschetta, with a creamy horseradish base, smoked trout and pickled zucchini zoodles, what a fabulous combination of flavours, it was a real hit.
Also a delight was the Pick Me Up juice which was a watermelon heavy blend of watermelon, pineapple, strawberry, lemon and mint.
A very enjoyable brunch.
WoW this place is a must, the place is funky, the service is fantastic, very attentive, lots of smiles, an innovative menu, I had a turmeric late and a nourish bowl which was to die for, did I mention the coffee, just fabulous, I am addicted
I will be back
4.3.
This is an excellent cafe that gets all the fundamentals right. It has an excellent menu, space, food and service. It is easily the best cafe in the area from what Ive seen so far, particularly in the North Blackburn and Nunawading areas.
First off, its a decently styled light filled cafe. Its well designed and laid out. It has interesting shapes and textures throughout including a light wood feature wall, numerous funky light fittings and a good number of tables. Theres also a decent sized and shaded outdoor area.
They have a very good hipster style menu here. There are stacks of good choices, both healthy and not so healthy. The nieces and nephews section of the menu is undeniably cute. I started with a sumptuous long black served on a cute board with a tiny glass of sparkling water. This was as pretty as a picture. Lovely St Ali coffee on offer here. Its hard to start a meal better for mine than having coffee of this quality.
I ordered the brunch salad with grilled broccolini, broad beans, kale, avocado, beetroot hummus, walnuts and quinoa with pomegranate dressing. I added salmon and poached egg and feta ($2 only). The dish was well presented and was absolutely delicious. Its a very healthy dish and a good sized serve. I couldnt fault it. I thought it was a brilliant dish and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Service was excellent throughout. The staff were up and about. Attentive, polite and efficient.
This is a terrific cafe. It would give a few highly rated inner city brunch places a run for their money on what I saw today.
Beautiful little brunch place in Blackburn with a lovely outdoor space where we chose to sit as the weather was fine. The service was friendly and always with a smile. We ordered a cappuccino ($4) and a freshly squeezed oj (overpriced at $6.5). Then I ordered the 184 burger and the Surrey mushrooms. The burger was great, very filling and the chips were perfect – cripsy and not oily. The Surrey mushrooms was a smaller vegetarian dish; the polenta was nice and the mushrooms were done right, but I wouldn’t recommend if you were looking for something more filling. Lovely place to visit if you’re in the area.
We came into Aunt Billies and sat outside which I am happy to say is dog friendly
For our late brunch meal we ordered the breakfast salad, the 12 hour lamb shoulder , and the cauliflower pancake. The brunch salad was surprisingly my favourite meal , something like this usually doesnt appeal to me but I just loved the combination of fresh greens ( broad beans , kale , Avo etc) the addition of the salmon and poached egg really lifted the dish
The 12 hour lamb shoulder had great flavour but we did find the meat a tad dry, the addition of haloumi was fantastic, I highly recommend
The cauliflower pancake resembled a potato hash and with the addition of the salsa and bacon this dish was also a crowd pleaser, we especially loved the crme fraise on the plate and incorporated with all of our meals ( with the lamb and also in the salad ) so good
Thanks for having us
Really great brunch space. Also went for lunch but prefer their brunch options. Great service. Get in early to get s good table. Highly reccomend the chai
We were invited to Aunt Billies for breakfast yesterday and were able to brunch outside in the sunshine. We started with a St Ali cold drip and a pick me up fresh juice. The watermelon and pineapple combo was most refreshing in the warm weather.
Food wise hubby got the breakfast salad with the poached eggs and feta. A very healthy choice indeed. I think he was a bit sad when he saw my stunning hotcakes as they truly were magnificent. Three thick fluffy delights topped with passionfruit curd and lime mascarpone. Caramelised pineapple and coconut macadamia crumb rounded out this heavenly dish. Having this tropical flavour combination as opposed to a rich chocolatey one felt much lighter and is really nice coming in to the warmer weather.
It was great to see a super bustling cafe so close to home. We would definitely come back and as someone who eats out on average seven times a week its a real mark of exceptional when Id actually return
