Local Chinese Food at Reasonable prices.
Visited for the first time on a Saturday night and it was quite busy (always a good sign). Ordered the Roast Duck special, mapo tofu & entree serving of the spicy chicken ribs. All dishes were tasty and reasonably priced. Service was good for the standard expected at a no frills Chinese Restaurant. Would return again & keen to check out other menu items.
Went there yesterday as I walked past and saw it was packed and super buys. The portion sizes are quite generous and the food was bought out quickly. I can tell they use a lot less MSG as alot of other Asian restaurants .
Noticed there were lots of people in the restaurant when we drove past one day. So decided to go there for a late lunch with family. Ordered roast duck on rice, roast pork with tofu on rice and fish head noodle soup. All portions were generous in quantity and very tasty . Roast duck skin was crispy and the meat was tender and flavoursome. Fish head noodles was average and plain in flavour, but could be a sign of less MSG used than other places. Roast pork and tofu rice was very tasty and has a nice balance of sauce, veggies and meat. All of us left with a very full and satisfied tummy.
Fast efficient service.yummy roast meat.yummy roast duck. Braised beef noodles.these items are a must everytime we visit. Yum..yum..
And always book a table before you go as they are very busy especially with large family groups patronising.
I have been here several times with my boyfriend, we like here because of the nice service, food is good with enough amount, I can barely finish it. Haha , will be back again. Anyway, didnt feel regret to go.
‘Tasty House’ hey? You know, I recon it is. No frills dining, but that’s OK when the food works this well. Friendly wait staff, and food that comes almost before you order it, works for me. This place is just opposite Forrest Hill Chase shopping centre. Way back in the olden days, this strip of shops running back up the hill from Canterbury Road used to be such a hub of activity, but it’s a lot quieter now. The food though, is improving, and that may help to see the street busy again, albeit at a different time of day.
There are pages and pages of menu options here, but the quality didn’t seem to falter in our selection. Two of us went with the ‘Chef’s Special’, which consisted, ironically of the customer building their own soup. Choose your meat, choose your noodles and choose your broth. Additionally you then get to choose if you want your meat in with the soup, that was a ‘no thanks’ for me, and a ‘yessir’ for The Lovely Man. While there are also entree sized soups, these soups are more meal sized. A clear, subtle soup, the chicken broth was just the ‘poultice’ my insides needed – though there’s chilli oil on the table if you want to give it some oomph. I had rice noodles and the soy sauce chicken. The chicken was a generous serve, the meat was incredibly moist and it had a little ginger and spring onion sauce with it (think Hainan chicken) – I wish there had been more of that sauce. I am reliably informed that the same broth with hokkien noodles and bbq pork in the soup was also a winner – the flavour of the pork did not dissipate in the broth.
Also big hits this night were: Sizzling Udon Noodle with Beef and Black Pepper, Thai-Style Fried Rice (that got a *huge* thumbs up – packed full of treasures under the rice dome – and redolent with lemongrass and kaffir lime), Fish Head Noodle Soup, Tom Yum, and the Peking Duck – really flavoursome, though the sauce with it in the pancakes, was not to my taste. The Spring Onion Pancake was good, though more spring onions would have made it better.
Tea in thermoses was lovely. Cutlery and choppies are sat on the table to help yourself, paper napkins and plenty of good food. A pleasing surprise.
I’ve been here quite a few times, on different days and different parts of the day. So, I understand what some of the other reviews say about inconsistency. With Asian places, especially BBQ roast restaurants, it is better to go at times where a new batch of roast is being put up. At the end of the night or towards the end of a busy lunch service are always bad times to go. That said, the staff are friendly and the male chef/owner genuinely seems to enjoy what he’s doing. I recommend this place for a casual, no-fuss meal.
