We came to the Blackburn a couple of months ago for a lazy Saturday night dinner. What really surprised me was the share size parking. It was like the airport long term carpark in behind the venue. The venue itself was also sizeable and tasteful but similar in style of many like buildings, very RSL in its style. It has simple pub food and my parma was just ok. It suffered a little from the sog factor which I tend to dislike and the salad was a little lack lustre. Overall I was disappointed as it really wasn’t an affordable meal out and given some of the brilliant parmas out there on parma nights So you can do better parmas elsewhere. Can’t vouch for the rest of the menu as both Kelisi and I had disappointing parmas.

Ordered salmon with Aussie king prawn special. The next table ordered the same, & as theirs came I regreted my choice …… the stench of off prawn was almost overwhelming!! Mine was no better. My meal was a special gift from a friend so I didn’t want to make a fuss. The salmon was ok, the veggies & sauce not great, but the prawn was black, so hot I could swear it had been microwaved. I ate the salmon & (out of habit) tried to peel the prawn. It disintegrated & stank so bad to call the waiter over to take it away before I brought the salmon back up!! BTW – there was no apology.

Came for dinner and ordered a parma. Not cheap at $26 but I dont mind paying that much but it was just average. Not bad but far from memorable.

Location: A pub, gaming area, function area and restaurant with plenty of parking place as well spacious inside to sit down for a drink or meal. Ambience perhaps not as good as some other pubs or family dining pubs. Staff very rigid and thumbs down on service.6/10

Menu: Contemporary modern Australian and Italian mix. Wine list average. Would have expected to have better meals and wines on offer given a bottle shop and pub in same premises as well several modern Italian places in close vicinity. 6/10

Food: Ordered for pasta and chicken parma with chips. gravy and mashed potatoes. Average to bit above average in taste. 6/10. Did not buy any wine or desserts.

    Revisit: Maybe

The bistro is part of one of those big ALH group pubs that also has a tab and gaming area. This one is actually one of the nicer looking ALH bistros, and it’s even cut off from the gaming area. So much so that you can go to the bistro without walking past a pokies machine -which is a nice change from many of these mimi casino’s! We went on a Monday night, reasonable busy, cheaper than usual parma’s with 4 different topping choices. I had the Hawaiian Parma – Not the worst thing I’ve ever eaten in a pub, and my wife liked her bolognaise topped parma. Service was prompt and friendly. Pretty expensive if you want one of the dishes that aren’t on special though. Easy enough to eat there with a baby so we’d probably go back.
