I haven’t been to Boxhill in years and had difficulty locating this. It’s in the new north precinct foodcourt upstairs so be prepared to carry your own bowls to your table.

They do Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles and for a food court food it’s pretty impressive. I got their braised beef version which came with fatty beef cubes, melt in your mouth and delicious. They ask you how spicy you’d like it, I asked for it to be moderate. The broth was a tad oily from the chilli oil but gave great flavour with a hint of numbing. It was salty but tasty. The noodles defaulted to the thin size (you can choose) and it was good, could have been chewier. From my experience it’s better to ask for it thicker if you like it al dente.

How does it compare with the other Lanzhou noodle spots out there? I feel like it’s close, the foodcourt experience sort of drags it down a bit however.

We have been back multiple time for they’re exceptional side dishes. The noodle soups are similar to all the other Ma la places in Box Hill, but I will note that the noodles were well cooked on each occasion. The soup is stock standard though.

Authentic delicious Lanzhou beef noodle. Better than others in Melbourne. Staff is friendly, price is reasonable. I like the thinnest noodle but there are other choices of noodle as well. Broth is nice and rich, must try their chilli oil. The problem is sometimes you have more beef in the noodle and sometimes you have less beef. Very random.
