I have eaten at the restaurant in the city set up by the same japanese owner where the food is great. However, i have no idea what has happened as this place in Box Hill is not what I thought it would be. We decided to try the karaoke here but minimum room charge was $300. Drinks selection was limited, mix platter for $38 consisted of a heap of fries, some spring rolls and fried takoyaki balls. There was no other food available apart from a fruit platter.
Both our mics ran out of battery within 1 song, service button wasn’t working or maybe they were ignoring us, song system didn’t have new songs. I think the biggest let down was the staff who weren’t very professional and had very little English comprehension so luckily I could speak Chinese. Definitely not somewhere I would go back to.
So its hard to find somewhere for a drink before dinner in Box Hill, but Edoya Izakaya seemed like it would be a good spot of a couple of Asahis before dinner with friends on a Saturday evening.
We walked up the stairs and the place seemed to be closed as there was nobody eating or drinking and the lights were off (it was within their opening hours). The chap behind the bar said they were open, and even flicked the lights on for us. We ordered some beers (they had sold out of Asahi and had no other Japanese beer, so we made do with a few Tsingtao), we also sought to order some edamame or other snacks but the kitchen was closed(!). When our friends came to join us they were initially told the place was closed, but were let up to join us. Later on someone did bring us a plate of Doritos though.
We sat in the empty dining area and tolerated the karaoke coming from the private karaoke rooms until we finished our drinks and left. It was nice to be able to easily converse in the empty room, but it was probably the weirdest bar/dining experience Ive had.
Worst karaoke in Melbourne. Rude staff with terrible customer service, did not disclose the kitchen is under renovation via phone. Basically tricked us to come and threw attitude towards all of us. I would not recommend any of my friends to come here in the future.
restaurant
What should I say. One of the best Japanese restaurant I ever been. The chef is traditional talented from Japan. All the raw matirial is fresh. I had the lobster sashimi , fry fish head, black toro, and the lobster congee. 100% good value for the money. The only problem is the entrance is not easy to find, you will see it next to the underground tunnel. Will come back again!
