I love their take away yum cha items here. Favorites include their egg tarts, steamed bbq pork buns and wontons! Get in early to snag the egg tarts which are freshly made and hot!

Our go to place to grab frozen Chinese buns, in particular the bbq pork bun. They have a good variety to choose from. Also has frozen dumplings. We often get the egg tart which is yummy! The red bean pastry is average.

Friend highly reccommended this place. Apparently they only cook the fresh goods on a Saturday. I found the quality of the food to be terrific. Egg tarts straight out of the oven were divine.

I don’t know why but since a year or so ago, they changed the recipe for the eggplant dish. Now it tastes doughy, and the price has increased from what used to be $9.50 for 6 pieces to $16 (what I read from another review- I stopped patronising this place since they increased the price to $12) for the same number of pieces in less than a year! Prices increase for many hot food items which also mean that I’d be better off eating at a yum Cha restaurant and save me the trouble of washing dishes!

With the rapid decline of the standard of Cantonese cruising and yum Cha in recent years. Also the replacement of Cantonese food restaurants by that of northern chinese style.
Kwan’s dim sims on a saturday was the main stay of diy yum Cha to many. The dim sims they made are usually a wee bit cheaper and possibly even taste better than those in regular restaurants.

My last two outings there were so disappointed that yum Cha is becoming a pain in the donkey exercise for me.

I last went there last week the price is almost matching that of other restaurants. $16 for eggplant with minced meat is beyond belief. Spring rolls are one bite shorter and stuffed tightly with tasteless fillings. The basic humble Cha Siu bau is a shadow of former self. Non raising and sticky pastry with a tiny bit of anaemic dry bland meat pieces
    Inside.

Yes. Take away yum Cha with dim sims from kwan’s is now just as bad as outside restaurants. Yes. You save on tea money, $2.50 each but still have to clean up and do the dishes after.

    RIP Melbourne Cantonese restaurants.

Yes. We got takeaways from Kwans again. As for the eggplants they are not stuffed with minced prawn or fish anymore. Just s few diced prawns bits in the middle. How can you bear to see tradition destroyed.

And they should really train the young sales girls not to put frozen dumplings with the hot stuff in the same bag. (They sell some hot stuff on Saturday mornings)

May be more importantly please check the total cost yourself. These young kids manning the cash register may not be the best mathematicians around.

Another time. The silly young girl tried to play with 8 pieces of dim sums trying to fit them all in one box, single tier. As though she missed playing with her childhood jig saw puzzle she did it multiple times until the dim dims flaking, cracking and falling apart. I called for the boss. He still wont give me another one of these cheap paper folding boxes. At least he simply stacked them high instead of playing with them.
