I was happy to see Meet Fresh set up shop in Box Hill, after their first store closed down in the CBD a few years back. I have always liked the taro balls from Meet Fresh, and have been missing them all this time.
The place was buzzing on a Friday night, and rightly so on a hot summery night. Nothing better than some cooling and invigorating dessert.
The taro balls, and the sweet potato balls too, were as good as I remembered – just the right amount of chew and bounce. When paired with the refreshingly delicious grass jelly, this went down a treat. The snow ice was delightful too – soaking up all the condensed milk yet retaining its pillowy soft texture. However as snow ice goes, the one from Dessert Story is much more scrumptious overall.
So far so good, but all good things must come to an end. Disappointment came in the form of the tofu pudding. It was more of a jelly-like consistency, and lacking the silky smooth texture of a tofu pudding. There was more syrup than tofu pudding, and there were only minimal amount of taro balls hidden underneath the tofu pudding.
Nevertheless, it’s still good to have Meet Fresh back in Melbourne, and even better knowing that the taro balls are still yum.
Just when I think I have over come my bubble tea addiction, another new joint opens to tempt me all over again! In this case, it’s the re-opening of Meet Fresh in Melbourne, this time in the bubble tea saturated suburb of Boxhill.
This new outlet has an upstairs seating area which is relatively spacious but slightly grubby….the day that we visited, there were lots of dirty dishes lying around on super sticky tables.
Fortunately the drinks and desserts make up for the less than stellar environment. I had the brown sugar pearls with fresh milk which was cold, sweet and creamy.
Their signature ice grass jelly is highly recommended. Man, they must have the best taro balls around. And the boba snowflake ice was a sight to behold….a mountain of finely shaved ice with pearls and pudding – absolutely amazing.
