In one word, delicious!
Came by No.1 for a seafood feed as a member of our party wanted to gorge on some fresh fish and crab or lobster. As is typical for Chinese seafood restaurants, No.1 has massive tanks where they keep their live seafood, and where they fish your chosen fish or crab or lobster out when you order them, then show it to you at your table before bringing it back to the kitchen.
We started off with a very hearty coconut and chicken soup which was really delicious, filled with lots of chicken pieces and our favourite chicken feet. The free range chicken was sensational and certainly one of the better ones Ive had. Next up came the mud crab vermicelli claypot, which I would have enjoyed more if they had less spring onion or coriander (disc. I dislike spring onion and coriander). Taste wise, it was really really good. Thereafter our steamed parrot fish came to the table, which we wiped out really quickly. It was fresh, succulent, and full of flavour. Rounded off our meal with a plate of greens, and the restaurant served us a platter of fruit, and individual bowls of red bean soup as complimentary dessert.
No.1 Cafe, surprisingly, has one of the best service standards this side of town, surpassing even non-Asian restaurants, and even the posh modern restaurants would find it hard to compete. We had our plates constantly changed by very attentive staff, and each and every plate we used was warmed up. Phenomenal.
One star deducted for the long arduous wait we had to endure before our food got served, but in their defence, it was a very crowded restaurant when we visited.
food was ok and quite authentic; decor is average. Most of the staff were friendly, however the guy that I paid my money to did not give my change back, which is simply the rudest gesture I have ever received in a restaurant. Effectively it’s theft – a criminal act. My family and I have never been back since.
